Legend has it that a woman purchased a recipe from the high-end department store, Neiman Marcus, for just that: $250.00. The story goes that she thought she was adding it to her lunch tab for $2.50 — only to find that the credit card statement showed that she’d been charged $250.00.
It goes on to say that she was so outraged at the price tag, and their refusal to refund the sale, that she publicized their “very exclusive” recipe to the world for free! Again, the story is an urban legend (Neiman Marcus denies ever selling recipes for anything) but it is fun, isn’t it!
My dad loves making these cookies. They are outrageously good. The recipe takes some time to make but it is worth it.
It makes a lot of them: 112 cookies.

- Bake them and share some with friends
- Freeze a portion for later, or
- Cut the recipe in half (still a lot of great cookies)
Whatever you do, make them! You will be so glad.
Neiman Marcus Cookies
otherwise known as the
$250 Cookie Recipe
Ingredients
2 cups butter
24 oz.chocolate chips
4 cups flour
2 cups brown sugar
2 tsp. soda
1 tsp. salt
2 cups granulated sugar
1 8 oz. Hershey Bar (grated)
5 cups blended oatmeal
4 eggs
2 tsp. baking powder
2 tsp. vanilla
3 cups chopped nuts (whatever kind you prefer)
Directions
Measure oatmeal, and blend in a blender till it is a fine powder.
Cream the butter and both brown and granulated sugars.
Add eggs and vanilla, mix together with flour, oatmeal, salt, baking powder, and soda.
Add chocolate chips, Hershey Bar, and nuts.
Roll into balls, and place two inches apart on a cookie sheet.
Bake for 10 minutes at 375° . Yields 110-112 cookies.
