Fruit flies and natural fruit fly trap #tips
We love fruit. We hate fruit flies. Since their eggs and larva are microscopic, it behooves us to wash our fruit before consumption. Even so, if you have a basket of fruit on your kitchen counter, you are going to find some flying in the air.
Take a look at my beautiful display of washed fruit. It has an invader. See him on the orange on the left? Yep. There he is!
Clean fruit can still come with those nasty little pests - fruit flies. Here is how to get rid of them! #tips
So, how do we get rid of them?
We trap them!
This method is easy and chemical-free.

Natural Fruit Fly Trap

  • Wash your fruit and pat it dry.
  • Display the fruit on the counter.
  • Get out a clean cup from the cupboard.
  • Fill it about halfway with water.
  • Add 2 T. vinegar.
  • Cover with clear plastic wrap, tightly.
  • Poke holes in the plastic in several places.*
  • Place it near the fruit on the counter.
In time, you will see that the fruit flies have wiggled their way through the holes but they cannot get back out again. Eventually they die.

*I have used a toothpick to poke the holes but I think the sharp end of a knife works better. You’ll have to experiment to see what works best for you. Obviously, if the holes are too big, they could find their way back out again.
