When our daughter, Shannon, was a little girl she always asked me to make a white cake with white frosting from scratch for her birthday. You would think she’d get tired of it but she never did. To this day, it remains her favorite and it is no wonder why. It tastes amazing.
This easy to make white cake recipe is so delicious that you will want to serve it when you have guests to share it with you. Why? Because, if you do not have help, you may just eat it all by yourself!

White Cake With White Butter Cream Frosting
Ingredients
2 cups all purpose flour or 2 ¼ cups cake flour
1 ½ cups sugar
3 tsp baking powder
1 tsp salt
¾ cups shortening
2 tsp vanilla
1 cup milk
3 eggs
Directions
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans or a 13 X 9 X 2 inch baking pan.
- Place all ingredients in a large mixing bowl. Using an electric mixer, beat at low speed until well-blended, about 1 minute. Increase speed to medium and beat 4 minutes, scraping the sides of the bowl occasionally.
- Pour the batter into the prepared pans and smooth the tops. Bake 25-30 minutes for layers (35-40 minutes for oblong pan) or until a wooden pick inserted in the center of the cakes comes out clean.
- Cool in pans on wire cooling racks for 10 minutes. Invert the pans, remove and let cool completely on racks. Frost with butter cream frosting (or cheat and buy vanilla frosting in a can!)
