Those of us who love a richly flavored, piping hot, freshly brewed cup of coffee can seem to be snobs. We appear to be just a little bit hard to please. Not so. Inexpensive coffee can taste really good. No snobbery here. But there is nothing worse than stale coffee. Stale coffee is “yuck”. You may as well throw it away.

Personally, I don’t require Starbucks or Dunkin’ Donuts coffee to be a happy camper. Store brands will do. I’m frugal. I love good CHEAP coffee! But that’s where the compromise ends.
There are ways to make really great tasting drip coffee at home. An even better method is the carafe method because that wonderful coffee lasts all day long. It is vitally important, though, to preserve your coffee so that the last pot tastes as good as the first.
How To Keep Coffee Fresh
Storing coffee properly is the answer.
- Refrigerate: If you place your can of coffee in the refrigerator, its shelf-life will be extended from 10 to 30 days.
- Freeze: Frozen ground coffee or coffee beans will stay fresh for 3 months.
- Tip: Frozen coffee must never sit out at room temperature. If you leave it out, it will form condensation. Refreezing is not an option at that point and you will need to use the rest of it soon. Damp coffee is no good.
- Tip: Before you pour your cup of coffee, heat up the cup. Simply put hot water in it, let it sit for a minute or two, pour out the water and pour your coffee. Delicious!
Enjoy!
