Letter M is for Mouse Preschool Craft and Lesson

This simple little craft and classic children’s book, Ad  If You Give A Mouse A Cookie, make the Letter M is for Mouse lesson come alive in a preschool classroom. Your kids will love it!

I just love teaching preschoolers. Everything is new to 3 year olds. For instance, when I was teaching them about mice, I had to start with the basics:  “One is called a “mouse”; more than one is called “mice. ” A few little sets of eyes got bigger. It was news to them!

On M is for Mouse day, we talked about what mice eat – fruit, grains and seeds – and that they sleep in the daytime. Another surprise to my little 3 and 4 year olds.  I used a picture book to teach them the basics. The vivid pictures really kept their attention.

4 Super Easy Ways to Tie a Scarf

how to tie a scarf

Decorative scarves add so much to a wardrobe. Whether an elegant wrap for a high fashion ensemble or the finishing touch to a casual outfit of skinny jeans and cowl-neck sweater, scarves accentuate the look. Classy!

If you are new to scarves, tying them can be a real challenge. There are so many varieties of styles, dimensions and fabrics on the market, each one needing a little different technique to make it look “just right”. Where to start?

luxury satin multi colored scarf wrap

Personally, I received a gorgeous accordion pleated scarf for a birthday present and had absolutely no idea how to tie it. It is large and long.

Lacking a person in my home who could help me (my guys were no help at all) I took to the internet and found this easy-to-follow video (below.) She illustrates several different scarf-tying techniques.

How to Tie a Scarf

There are four basic ways to tie a rectangular scarf:

1. European Loop. As you will see in the video, this technique is a simple method that creates a very chic look. Take a long, rectangular scarf in hand and fold it in half, ends meeting. In one hand you will have a loop, in the other hand the loose ends. Lift the scarf over your head and lay it across the back of your neck. Pull the open ends of the scarf through the closed “loop” end. Pull the open ends through as you gently push the knot up to your neckline. Voila! A great new look.

2. Loose Neck Wrap. This technique creates a loose, billowy look. Take your scarf and place it around the back of your neck so that the ends fall down your front, one side longer than the other. Using the longer side, wrap the scarf loosely around your neck and, coming around front, bring that same end up and through the scarf near your neckline. Adjust the fabric so that the long parts of the scarf are covering you in front. Nice, cozy and warm!

3. Double Wrap. Similar to #2, take your scarf and loop it not once but twice around your neck and then bring it up and through the scarf near your neckline.

4. Ascot Knot: as you will see in the second video, using a long rectangular scarf, first find the middle of the scarf. Place the middle across the front of your neck, allowing the ends to drape behind your shoulders on either side. Reaching around, pull the ends across the back of your neck, around front and then cross the left side over the right. Pull the left up through the “hole”, lightly tying it. Gently fluff the long ends out to make it look great!

.

.

How to tie a square scarf:

Triangle Scarf  Wrap. This can be done with a triangular scarf but it can also be done with a large square scarf, folded in half to create a triangle. Holding two opposite ends of the triangle, one in each hand, bring them around your neck much like a bib. Pull the ends around you to the front and secure underneath the “bib”.

Scarf Storage

Now that you know how to tie them, you will probably want to add more scarves to your wardrobe for every occasion! But where do you keep them? In a ball in a drawer? Not recommended!

The best way to store scarves is by hanging them in your closet. Simply fold each scarf in half and wrap them around the lower rung of a sturdy hanger, using the same method as the European Loop. There are also scarf hangers made just for this purpose.

They will stay neat and will be ready for you, any time you need one.

Scarf Accessories

You can also use accessories to help you tie your scarves, such as this scarf ring clip (pictured below.)

How to Get Rid of Pantry Moths

Is your kitchen infested with tiny little brown pantry moths? Ever tried to kill them?  Kill one and two take its place. Kill two more, and then there are three.  It is an endless cycle and, sadly, could start to feel like the moths are winning! So, what are these little creatures and why are they living in your kitchen?
How To Get Rid of Pantry Moths

This blog contains Amazon affiliate links. ♥

There is a way to ☑️ get rid of pantry moths !

PANTRY MOTHS – What are they?

Pantry moths got that name for the obvious reason that they live in pantries and kitchen cupboards. I can think of a few more choice names for them…including “The Pests from the Pit of You-Know-Where.” Weren’t they one of the plagues of Egypt? They had to be!
Having had way too much familiarity with them, I decided to learn more about them. Pantry moths most often feed off of grains and cereals, though I’ve found them in the most peculiar places including tea bags. (Maybe they were running out of ideas?) Another name for these moths, by the way,  is “Indian Meal Moths.”
One of the reasons that they are so hard to get rid of permanently is their life cycle. The first time that you notice them is likely to be when they are flying around your kitchen. Unfortunately, they’d already set up shop a while ago in your kitchen cupboards and drawers, planning on a long stay.
Pantry moths lay eggs…lots of them. Each moth may lay up to 300 eggs at a given time. That will soon be 300 moths, if they have their way! Yikes! From a few days to two weeks later, larvae emerge from those eggs. Larvae have no social graces and will show up where and when you least expect it. Can I tell you that, horrifyingly,  one fell from the ceiling onto my kitchen table?

How To Keep Pantry Moths Out Of Your Home

Cleanliness is a great start. We can all be in a hurry and, sometimes, leave a counter with crumbs– but that isn’t the best practice. Clean up counters and table-tops after meals and snacks. Sweep the kitchen floor, as well. Don’t give them things to feed on.

The cupboards tend to be the breeding ground. Cleaning cupboards is a long, tedious job and we all lead busy lives. That may explain why more people are complaining about moth infestation than ever. We just don’t have the time. But, once you’ve got moths, your time is going to be taken up by trying to get rid of them and, trust me, you’ll hate every minute of it.
As you are swatting at them, you’ll see the wisdom in spring and fall cleaning! Yes, every spring and every fall our moms [and grandmas] would empty the cupboards and this is what they would do:
  • They threw out expired food.
  • Checked the current food for freshness. Stale? It went in the trash, too.
  • Washed the cupboards: shelves, sides, ceilings. Yes. ALL of it.
  • Put down shelf paper.   What’s that? Shelf paper is literally paper that lays on the shelf and looks pretty. But it’s functional, too. It can be thrown away with the next cleaning or if there is a spill.
  • And, finally, replaced the old food with new food, in air-tight containers.

Another tip: your kitchen cupboards, themselves, may be making it all-too-easy for the moths to stay. If the cupboards are not flush to the wall, or do not go up to the ceiling, then there are a lot of hiding places that you’ll never get at no matter how well you clean.

pantry moth traps

Non-toxic, safe for humans and animals, moth traps. They work!  Ad

Pantry Moths – How To Get Rid Of Them

And, this is what you’ve been waiting for: how to wipe-them-out forever!

First: get busy and do the “spring or fall cleaning” routine. Forget waiting for the right time of year. Do it now. Empty the cupboards and toss all the infested food out. Play it safe. Don’t try to hang onto anything questionable. You can get more food.

Unless it’s canned soup or tuna, most things will probably have to go. Cereal, mashed potatoes, pancake mix, rice, pasta, packaged mixes like cake mix, tea bags.  Say “goodbye” to it all.

Now, scrub! Use lots of soapy hot water to clean those cupboards. Look out…you’ll run into live moths and larvae. This is combat! Be brave. If you find little webs in corners, know that that is where eggs are. Clean it out thoroughly.
Dry: using lots of paper towel, dry the cupboards out.
KILL: now…here’s the deal. You’ve set up a clean environment where you should be able to trust your food to be safe, but it’s not. You cannot possibly seek and destroy ALL of the eggs, larvae and adult moths by just cleaning.
You have to draw them out from their hiding places and destroy them. Trust me on this. I’ve tried spraying the little buggers out of the sky. (By the way, Windex is NOT bug spray! It didn’t work.) I’ve tried more powerful, toxic bug sprays (never a good idea in a kitchen or around people or pets) and it was only a temporary fix, anyway.

The only thing that I have found to work, and work FABULOUSLY, is a moth trap.

Pantry Moth Traps

Desperate, having been under siege for well over a month, I stopped trying home remedies and began to search the internet. The chats and forums all were saying that moth traps were the only thing that actually works.

pantry moth trap

So, I found a highly recommended brand — Catchmaster –– and called the local home improvement store. They did not have any in stock. I knew that Amazon shipped quickly, so found them online and I placed my order for two packs immediately.  Till then, I kept on squirting the little varmints out of the air with glass cleaner until, to my relief,  the order arrived.

Moth Traps Are Small Little Tents

The traps are easy to assemble and non-toxic. They are small little tents. I was skeptical that just one trap could do much but I was utterly amazed to watch it work. Literally 30 seconds after I had the trap assembled, the first moth flew into it and got stuck. Then two more arrived. Whoosh. They were gone, caught in its proverbial jaws.

The trap is like “fly paper” inside (very strong adhesive so don’t touch it with your fingers) with a little red square of something that attracts them. Within a few hours, 22 moths had met their demise!
After a couple of days, I replaced it with a new one but only a couple more got trapped. Why? They were all gone! I mean it. I haven’t seen any moths…even larvae…in many weeks. I have a spare set of traps handy for the first sighting, just in case. But I think we’re done with this!   And, you will be, too.

Top Benefit Of Gelatin That I Needed The Most

Pain relief is the number one  reason that I added gelatin to my diet and I am so glad that I did. What really surprises me is how quickly the pain goes away.

Top reason I added gelatin to my diet #nutrition #painrelief

I have been dealing with a lot of pain in my hips, right leg and foot lately. My chiropractor has gotten me through many an injury, but I have been looking for a way to resolve the pain while I wait for the treatments to take hold.

.

This is not a sponsored post but this blog does contain Amazon affiliate links.❤️

.

Knox gelatin #ad

Knox Gelatin 2-Pack

Over-the-counter pain killers just haven’t been doing it. Then I remembered hearing that gelatin helps with pain. I had some Knox unflavored gelatin in my cupboard, so I opened a single-serving envelop, added it to water and drank it. Within 30 minutes – yes, that fast – the pain in my leg and hips was gone!

Now, gelatin is not a cure for what is causing the pain but it sure does give me relief for hours. As long as I remember to take it every day – and when I forget I do remember because the pain comes back – it works quite well. Thankfully, this is not a condition that will be forever. I am getting better day by day. But since gelatin has other great health and beauty benefits,  I plan on keeping it in my daily routine from now on.

First, what is gelatin anyway?  Sometimes referred to as a “super-food,” gelatin is a protein that is derived from animal parts. Some people make bone broth as a way to get it into their diet. That is too much work for me. I am very happy to keep using powdered gelatin, thank you very much!

.

What do they say are the benefits and uses of gelatin?

  1. Pain relief – especially joint pain
  2. Anti-aging – improves skin health and actually can rejuvenate your complexion.
  3. Improves digestion
  4. Improves quality of sleep
  5. Helps lower stress hormones – has a happy, calming effect.
  6. May maintain heart health
  7. Controls hunger
  8. Good for bone health

Now, Knox unflavored gelatin is not the only way to get gelatin … it is just the one I am currently using. It was kind of expensive buying it in four packet boxes so I switched to buying 32 packets from Amazon and got a much better deal.
