See the beautiful Christmas cookie in the photo? My daughter-in-law Shannon makes them just like this. Beautiful! I received a batch from her on Sunday December 26th and they are still as fresh as if they’d come right out of the oven. “Delish”, as Rachael Ray would say!
Then, there are MY cookies. Made on December 18th, they did well for a few days but by December 23rd the sugar cookies were a little crisp. Flavor was still good but they had definitely lost their “just out of the oven” appeal.

The comparison got me to thinking, what could I have done better… and, can I fix it now? Is it too late?
Here are some options, two of which I wish I’d thought of before I’d baked! 🙂
1. Store them in the refrigerator or freezer in well-sealed containers. For lack of room, they can stay in the trunk of your car, as long as you live in a cold climate. (Which, today, could be Florida, Crazy weather!)
2. Put a slice of bread in the container with the cookies. The bread goes dry first, thus saving the moisture for the cookies.
3. Nuke ’em! If they are already losing their “oomph”, place a few on a plate and microwave them for 20-30 seconds. Serve them immediately. They will taste oh so good. (Works for Peanut Blossom and Sugar Cookies equally as well.)
