Tip #8 Let's Pause For This Important Commercial Message…

January 20, 2011 Leave a Comment

101 Dalmations

My friend, Phyllis Moss, inspired Tip#8.  She is one of those super-moms (though she wouldn’t say so).  Phyllis is a single-mom of two wonderful boys. Raajon, age 8, and Ramier, age 2.  They keep her hopping!  She is also an educator, an author, online journalist, worship ministry leader, song writer, featured speaker at professional seminars, board member of various organizations, etc.  You get the drift. She is busy!
Phyllis and Raajon have developed a system that helps them to spend quality time as a family in the evening, and still have everything ready for the next day.  I call it the “Commercial Break Run”!
Here’s how it goes:
While watching a favorite television show, they are poised and ready for the commercials to start.  Soon as it’s a commercial, they fly through the house, cleaning:
  • picking things up
  • putting them away
  • getting out clothes for the next day
  • packing lunch
  • finding tomorrow’s completed homework
  • packing the book bag
  • getting a TV time snack
It occurred to me that, especially when it comes to the cable networks, TV commercials are brief at the top of the hour.  Why?  They don’t want to lose viewers when the show changes over to something else.
The grouping of commercials on the half-hour, though, are lengthy.  There could be as many as 5 or 6 at a time.  Check it out.  This would be the strategic time to be prepared to get up and get stuff done.
So, Organizing Tip # 8 is:  at 7:30 pm, 8:30 pm and 9:30 pm take the Commercial Break Run!  (Thanks, Phyllis!)
