All it takes is some dust or pollen in the air and soon your swimming pool will need to be vacuumed …. again! Yes, you just cleaned it yesterday but things happen. Airborne debris is often a factor. And, of course, there is the natural dirt that pool usage brings. (Remember the days when everybody bathed before swimming? Now, that never happens.)
Don’t forget about what storms can do to mess up the water in your swimming pool or, even some unexpected wildlife. Wildlife???
For real! We had two Mallard ducks, Sadie and Sam, who paddled our pool for 2-3 weeks each summer for years. Only God knows what THEY dropped in our pool. You can’t get around it: swimming pool ownership comes with responsibility. For sure, though, the joys of having a pool in your own backyard outweigh the drawbacks. You just have to have a plan!

Pool Cleaning in the Old Days
Many years ago, pool vacuuming was a shared job between my brother and myself. It became old really fast! This is what it was like: you had to drag out and hook up a long, hefty accordion hose to the pool filter on one end and attach the vacuum brush on a long pole on the other. Then you pushed that long broom very, very slowly on the pool bottom. If you did it too fast, it stirred up the dirt and you’d have to wait for it to settle on the bottom again. It wasn’t exactly horrible. Just tedious. The one consolation for me was that I could get a tan while I did it but, since my teen summer job was as a lifeguard, I got plenty of sun time at work. 😎 So, that incentive was short lived.

Now Pool Cleaning is High Tech!
Fast forward to today, that same brother just told me that pool vacuuming has entered the digital world. Actually, the ROBOTIC world! My brother is super busy. He wants the pool clean but keeping up with pool maintenance is not high on the priority list. Nobody in their household has time to clean the pool 3 or more days a week. Some weeks, they have zero time. His “pool guy” recognized the dilemma and highly recommended that they use a robotic vacuum to take care of the job.
It made tons of sense for him to get a robotic pool cleaner. It’s better than hiring someone to do it for you and robotic pool cleaners are so user-friendly that you can even track what’s going on remotely from anywhere!
You’ll have to read about this yourself but he decided on this highly recommended Polaris Freedom+ brand. You’ll see that the Amazon reviews are very good… 4.5 out of 5 stars! You may want to go over and read them yourself.

About Mallard Ducks
For those who are stuck on my Mallard duck story, here is what Sadie and Sam looked like … only they were swimming on our built-in pool! Very fun. ☺️

.
I just found some facts about Mallard ducks for you. This overview from Cornell indicates that where we live they are non-breeding. Nobody told Sadie & Sam! They sure tried! Only thing is, Sadie always laid her eggs on the side of our garage where the sun was the hottest. As time went by, and summer heat increased, her eggs cooked right in the shell. We couldn’t figure out a way to convince her to find another spot. So sad. We would have loved to have little ducklings paddling on our pool. (More opportunities to vacuum, vacuum, vacuum! No robot cleaners in those days!)🤣

Enjoy your summer and your very clean pool!
