Hide-A-Squirrel: Fun Interactive Toy That Makes Your Dog Think

December 21, 2018 Leave a Comment

By far, this is the most ingenious dog puzzle toy we have ever found for our dogs. The Hide-A-Squirrel plush dog toy with the little squeaky toy squirrels hiding inside a plush toy log, challenges dogs to think and provides hours of playful fun! It is so cute.

This is the second one I have bought for my yellow lab, Sadie. The first one was smaller and just as delightful as this giant XL size version. We now have two dogs, though.  It seemed best to get the ginormous size as it comes with 6 squirrels. Bailey, the puppy, and Sadie share in the fun and we even have 3 squirrels still totally intact.

BEST DOG TOY EVER!
Sadie was the first one to get to play with ☑️ the NEW Hide A Squirrel plush dog toy. Good thing, too, as our puppy Bailey thinks that everything is all about her! Sadie wouldn’t have stood a chance!

Now, Sadie was well familiar with this toy as she had the large sized version before. She gingerly inspected the new super-sized log before searching out its squirrel inhabitants.  Then, Bailey got in the act! LOL I guess you can call this photo an “action shot” – that’s why it is blurry. Bailey swooped in and Sadie moved out of her way. They get along great but getting two of the toys is not a solution. Bailey would just take them both!

Interactive toys are great for dogs. It keeps their minds sharp, as they solve simple problems, and makes life interesting.  I bought this toy for them two months ago during a rainy-season where we live. The back yard was muddy and they needed something to keep them busy indoors.  What a great solution! They loved it.

Between this toy and their Benebone dog chew toys, which by far are the BEST dog chew toys ever invented, they were happy and content!

Cheap Toys That Your Dogs Will Love

Keep Your Dog Busy and Away From Your Shoes!

marrow bones for dogs; cheap dog toys; dogs; yellow lab

Dogs are natural chewers. Just watch what they do if left unattended for too long. Many have enjoyed a good chomp on a favorite pair of bedroom slippers or the leg of a dining room chair.

It is important that you redirect your dog’s natural propensity to chew to objects that he is permitted to have. Beef marrow bones are a good choice.
Raw marrow bones can be purchased from the meat department of your local grocery store or pet store. Select a bone that is the right size for your dog. Larger breeds will need a hefty sized bone. Tiny dogs needed smaller ones. They’ll need some preparation, though.

How To Prepare Marrow Bones For Dogs
PRECOOK THEM. Put the raw bone on a baking sheet covered with aluminum foil. Place it in an oven preheated at 350°. Bake it for about 30-40 minutes. Remove it from the oven and cool for at least 30 minutes. Then place it in a plastic bag, separating them with waxed paper to prevent sticking, and freeze for future use. You may want to prepare several at a time, to build up a supply. NEVER give a dog a hot or warm marrow bone. You don’t know how hot it may still be inside. Freezing assures burn prevention.

After your dog has enjoyed his bone, now what do you do with it? He will revisit it often, so don’t throw it away. When a time comes that you’ve run out of new bones to give to him, find a used one and stuff it.

Stuffing Used Marrow Bones
My yellow lab is a chewer. It’s hard to keep up with her. I cannot vouch for health safety on this but I do try to protect her. What I do is I wash the empty marrow bones in soap and water, rinse in very hot water and drip dry. Then I combine dry dog food with a little bit of canned dog food–I buy the organic kind. Then I stuff the dried marrow bones and freeze them.
Whenever Sadie needs something to chew, they are ready. Mind you, sometimes I do as many as 12 at a time! It is work but, especially when I do not have time to play ball with her or take her for a walk, they come in very handy!

Ever Give Your Dog An Ice Cube?
Yes, ice cubes make good snacks and great toys for dogs and puppies alike. Some dogs will enjoy chomping on the cold cube. It’s especially soothing for teething pups. Others will chase the ice cube on a smooth floor like a hockey player with a hockey puck! Just watch out for slippage when it comes to people walking on the “rink.” Use caution.
Empty Plastic Bottle

Next time you empty your mouthwash bottle (large size), wash it out, firmly replace the cap and give it to your puppy. She will bat that thing all over the floor for hours of inexpensive fun. It could become her favorite toy!

Safety Precaution: with pets, as with children, supervise their play. Dogs should not be allowed to swallow plastic or other foreign objects. If a playtoy becomes a health hazard, remove it from the premises and discard it.

Intellibone
ANOTHER GREAT DOG TOY IDEA: if you are looking for a plush toy that will keep your dog busy for hours, try the Intellibone Puzzle for Dogs (unlike many plush toys that will be destroyed almost instantaneously, this toy will be around for a while!  Though the initial outlay for this toy is not exactly “cheap”, the longer life will make it a great investment in the long run.Dogs love it…and their owners do, too!

Safety Precaution: Never give a dog a chicken bone or any bone that splinters:  when bones are dangerous to dogs.

Time For You To Consider Doodymaster

When autumn arrives and it gets dark earlier, it’s time for me to put in another plug for you to consider trying Doodymaster.

This little gal will grow real big, real soon.

Owners of big dogs, especially, will understand what I mean.  Poop scooping, which is a necessity but absolutely NO FUN, requires time and light.

I love a clean lawn but I don’t want to come home from work and grab a flashlight to try to find the poop to clean it up. Not my favorite way to end the day. Even in spring and summer, I’d much rather not have to do it myself.

Plus, anyone with trees that shed their leaves knows that in the fall everything on that lawn will start to look alike.  Where’s the poop?  Oh, it’s out there somewhere but try to find it.

Then there’s the winter.  Winter is how I finally found Doodymaster.  Our dog, Blondie (a beautiful big English yellow lab) was a big pooping machine!  I used to think “If there only was someone who wanted to buy this stuff. I’d be rich!”.

Anyhow, we had a particularly hard winter.  Layer upon layer of snow.  For the time being it was great.  She’d go out and do her business, then it’d snow and “voila”…no poop!  Yeah, right.  Then came the spring thaw.  The lawn became an historical record of “all that had gone before”.  Thank the Lord that, at just the right time, we heard about Doodymaster.  We called them and they came to the rescue.  Do you need rescued too?

For more about their company, read “Five Reasons You Don’t Poop Scoop” and visit their website:  Doodymaster

Are you a DOG LOVER?  There is no hiding it, dog lover that I am, Labrador Retrievers–especially yellow labs– are my all-time favorite dogs!
