Essential Oils To Relieve Your Headache Naturally

No one wants to be bothered by a headache. But, still, it happens to the best of us. Whether it is the pain of a common headache or the throbbing of a days-long migraine, you cannot enjoy a quality, beautiful day if you feel that pain.

Suffering with headaches? Essential oils can be the solution #tips

The easiest thing to do when you have a headache is to take medicine. A lot of people just take over-the-counter pain relievers such as paracetamol, ibuprofen, or mefenamic acid to dull the pain. And sure, it’s a fast and easy way to cure a headache, but is it safe to make it a habit of popping a pill every time you feel a headache coming? Are you completely sure that taking OTC medicines will not harm your health in any way?

The fact is that medications always come with side effects. So, if you’re looking for a safer and more natural way to relieve your headache, try treating it using essential oils.

What Are Essential Oils?

Essentials oil are concentrated liquids obtained from flowers, leaves, stems, barks, roots, or any other parts of a plant. One of the most common uses of essential oils is aromatherapy. This involves the use of the oils to provide health benefits, such as reducing stress and tension through their scent.

There are many conditions that essential oils can treat, including headaches and/or migraines. Of course, not all essential oils can treat a headache as each of them has different benefits. Essential oils are great because they do not have side effects.

Besides helping relieve your headache, it can also help you de-stress and relieve the tension you feel after a long, busy day. To use these oils, you need to dilute it with a carrier oil such as olive oil, coconut oil, or almond oil. You cannot apply it directly to your skin as it can burn you.

Here are some of the best essential oils to help soothe a headache:

1. Peppermint

This essential oil is actually a combination of watermint and spearmint. It is known for its cooling sensation, which has a calming effect. Additionally, that sensation enhances the body’s ability to prevent muscle contractions.

It can also stimulate the forehead’s blood flow when you apply it topically. Peppermint essential oil smells really good, which is part of the reason why it effectively soothes your pain. It is a natural and effective painkiller for dulling a tension headache.

2. Lavender

One of the most popular essential oils, lavender is known for its calming effects. It is often used to fight symptoms of anxiety, stress, depression, and nerve-related insomnia. Since ancient times, lavender has garnered a good rep for its ability to heal headaches naturally.

It is particularly effective in relieving migraines caused by stress or anxiety. Several studies have proven the wonderful effects of lavender oil to those frequently suffering migraines. Plus, this essential oil is great for treating PMS symptoms.

3. Rosemary

This is a powerful essential oil with exceptional analgesic and anti-inflammatory properties. Since hundreds of years ago, rosemary oil has been used for pain relief, stress reduction, and improvement of blood circulation — and all of these help in relieving a headache. Also, just like lavender, rosemary essential oil is effective in relieving PMS symptoms.

To use rosemary oil, just mix a few drops with coconut oil or any other carrier oil. Then, apply the oil on the temples and behind the ears. If not applied topically, you can use a dehumidifier to have its scent float through the air, which your skin can breathe in for pain relief. You can also add a few drops to your bath for a long, relaxing soak, effectively easing the pressure brought about by a headache.

4. Eucalyptus

If the cause of your headache is sinusitis or allergies, then this is the essential oil for you. It’s cool, minty scent is great for treating sinus-related headaches.

When inhaled, the scent can help open up your clogged nasal passages. It will help clear your sinuses and relieve the tension of your headache. You can apply it topically on your chest when mixed with a carrier oil or you can breathe in its vapor through a dehumidifier.

5. Chamomile

Chamomile is great for relaxing the body. It soothes your muscles, which is why it is a great treatment for tension headaches. What’s more, chamomile helps remedy insomnia and anxiety that commonly cause headaches.

The ability of chamomile oil to relieve a headache comes from its anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties. These help in relieving the general feelings of stress and anxiety as well as counter neuralgic pain. However, one thing to keep in mind about chamomile oil is that it isn’t for pregnant women.

The great thing about these essential oils is that, aside from being safe and natural ways to remedy your headache, they are readily available — you can buy them at aromatherapy boutiques, local drugstores, skincare shops, supermarkets, and more. So, if you don’t want to take over-the-counter medicines and/or just want to treat your headache naturally, these are the best pain relievers for you.

Everybody is aware of the cleaning properties of items like vinegar and baking soda. Essential oils not only help the other ingredients to work, but they also give the homemade product a soothing aroma. That compared to commercial cleaners whose scent it suffocating and hazardous makes natural products  outweigh chemical-laden ones. Besides, when you think of the lovely aroma of essential oils, the idea of cleaning seems more appealing.
Here we would like to give you a few cleaning recipes with essential oils.
Before you begin…
If you hate the fact that cleaning takes too long, chill out. Preparing your own cleaners with essential oils is easy and fast. If you are wondering how fast, here is an example. Making a window cleaner takes only a couple of minutes to fill a plastic bottle with water, add vinegar and a squirt of essential oil. And that’s it! You’re ready!
The general ingredients that you are going to need are white vinegar, baking soda, salt, lemon juice and essential oils. You can find essential oils with different aromas like eucalyptus, lemon, thyme, sweet orange, lime, etc.
Recipes:
Citrus Dishwashing Blend
If you are looking for a natural degreaser, we recommend using this recipe.
Ingredients:
5 drops extract from citrus seed
10 drops essential oil (sweet orange)
20 drops essential oil (lemon or lime)
Liquid castile soap
22-ounce squirt bottle
Preparation:
Take a clean bottle and add castile soap, citrus seed extract and the essential oils. Then add a couple of tablespoons of dishwashing liquid and shake the bottle. The cleaning solution is ready to use.
Herbal Disinfectant
Ingredients:
¼ cup of washing soda
10 drops of essential oil (thyme)
2 cups of water (hot)
Preparation:
In a clean spray bottle, mix together all ingredients and shake well. Apply on surfaces and wipe with a sponge or damp cloth.
Sink Scrubber
Ingredients:
8 drops of essential oil (tea tree, eucalyptus or rosemary)
¼ cup of baking soda
¼ cup of washing soda
¾ cup of vinegar
Preparation:
Use an airtight container. Add baking soda, washing soda and essential oil. Be sure to shake well. The solution is ready to use. You need to sprinkle a little into the sink, then scrub and rinse with vinegar. After that, rinse again, this time with water to remove any remaining vinegar.
Dishwasher Powder
Ingredients:
1 cup of baking soda
3 cups of washing soda
Preparation:
Pick up a container with a lid. Mix all ingredients together and store in the container. This solution can be used in the future. To clean your dishwasher’s soap compartment, use 1½ to 2 tablespoons of the mixture.
Toilet Cleaner
If you need a good natural cleaner that can remove all the grime and germs from the toilet, use this recipe. You can make the toilet and behind and under the seat perfect clean with this mixture.
