How To Clean Window Blinds

Window blinds collect dust. Window blinds should be cleaned. Right? I don’t know about you but I have a tendency to put cleaning jobs like this very low on the priority list when I am crunched for time. Kitchen counters, bathrooms, vacuuming and dusting — oh yes, and laundry –these tasks are top listed. Blinds…low, low, low on the priority list.

So, years have gone by. Oh, I swiped the blinds occasionally with my feather duster but real cleaning? Years!  And there’s a bridal shower coming up at my home. No time to buy and install new blinds (the windows in my dining-room are an unusual size) so, clean them I must!

Today was the day. The two sets of windows nearest the dining-room table were the focus. I tried several cleansers. Water with soap. Multi-Surface Cleanser. Pledge furniture polish. The Pledge, by far, worked best.

How To Clean Vinyl Window Blinds

Tools: step stool, clean paper toweling, spray furniture polish
Steps:
  • Start at the top of the blinds, using your step stool to make it easier to reach.
  • Work on sections of the blind at a time, spraying then wiping.
  • Using a clean paper towel, wipe each sprayed slat of the blind, front and back, working section by section. You may have to rub it a bit to get all of the dirt.
  • Be methodical and patient. The job will get done.
  • In the future, dust and use the vacuum attachment to keep dust from becoming stuck-on dirt. You may not have to do this again, if you stay on top of it
