Holiday Recipe Planning — Start Today

Holiday planning begins with holiday foods. Time to get out your recipes and inventory your cupboards.
There’s nothing worse than starting to make a delicious pie only to discover a key spice is missing or that an ingredient has expired.

Plan you next shopping trip to include your holiday food preparations.
What will you need?
Start with a basic menu idea for your winter holidays: Thanksgiving, Christmas, Chanukah, New Year’s Eve or Day. Especially when it comes to baking, it’s never too early to stock the shelves with the ingredients you’ll need.

Here are some key areas to consider:
Baking supplies:  flour, sugars (granulated, brown and confectioner’s), baking soda, baking powder, baking chocolate, decorating supplies, yeast, flavorings, nuts, dried fruit, pie crust, pie filling, shortening, evaporated milk.
Stuffing ingredients: stuffing mix or Matzo, poultry seasoning, celery, onion, chicken broth. (Matzo can make the best stuffing ever. Try it!)
Spices: onion flakes, poultry seasoning, pumpkin pie spice, nutmeg, cinnamon, ginger, all-spice, pepper, salt.
Miscellaneous: this can be about anything you may need but I would include an emergency supply of butter, eggs chicken broth and cream of chicken soup. (Cream of chicken soup with drippings or chicken broth makes a nice gravy in a pinch.)

And don’t forget the Roaster Pan! If you do not own one and prefer to buy a disposable one at the store, they can go quickly. Get it now.

Here is a FREE PRINTABLE Holiday Grocery Shopping List for you to use. Feel free to share it with family and friends.
