Storage Pods were originally found on a website called Secret Garden Quilting but I have not been able to locate a pattern for making this exact style.  Below is a tutorial on a website called Instructables for a Reverse Hanging Storage Pod.  Again, very similar but not exact.  I will continue to keep my eye out for the actual pattern. …Sinea

Best Pet Hair Vacuum Ever!

Shark liftaway vacuum for carpets and floors
Truly.  I mean it.  Read about how I found it and why I love it so much!
My story:  BEST PET HAIR VACUUM EVER!
These fur babies were part of the quest. Yellow Labs produce more fur than any dogs I have ever had the privilege of knowing! LOL
Two yellow lab dogs
Big Lexi and little sis Sadie.
Now, here is a NEW one.  I only just saw it and have read the details.  What I love about it is the microscopic deep cleaning it does, especially on hard floors.  See the green light?  It helps you find even the smallest hairs and particles that you would normally miss with the naked eye.  I will always be a Shark upright user … it is still my “go to!”  However, this is cordless and you can clean up in a jiffy.  I think I would like to have this Dyson V15 Detect, too!  Check it out!

Drop It! Create a Family Drop Zone and Stop Clutter In Its Tracks

By Sinea Pies

drop zone; command center; organizing; decluttering

“Stuff” taking over? Where does clutter just overrun you? In most cases, it is where people (or dogs) first enter your home. The foyer. The kitchen. The hallway. The nearest table. Where is your “hot spot?”

And, what kind of stuff are you dealing with? Gloves, hats, sunglasses, keys, the mail, leashes, toys, school books, the newspaper, loose change, toys? Best clutter-busting practice is to corral the clutter as it first invades your territory. Confine it to small, usable space.  Create a “drop zone.” Here are three types that work great.

drop zone, organizing, command center, Ducks n a Row

1. The Quick Drop
Place a tray, decorative plate or shallow basket on the table or counter-top nearest that entry. It will be the drop zone for small items. It is movable, so cleaning is a breeze. It looks nice (if not piled high) so things can remain in it till they go out the door again.

organizing plan; baskets, shelving, declutter

2. The Sweep

Baskets with purpose can be attractive containers to “sweep” stuff into when it is too much for a little tray. If you have a table that allows enough space underneath, you can free up the table top by stashing your clutter below. Now,the storage unit above utilizes an entire wall but you can put the principal into action using the space underneath a bench or hallway table. If you have toddlers or puppies, this will be tempting for mischief. You will be re-sweeping regularly….counter productive. If you can find baskets with lids that seal shut? Then you have a perfect solution.
organizing, command center, drop zone

3. The Hang Up

Hooks are a wonderful thing. My favorite use is as a replacement for a mudroom. You can label each hook for the family member to which it belongs and they will hang up their jackets, scarves and/or bags.

Clutter hot spots? No more! Yipee!

A Tisket, A Tasket, A Green And Yellow Basket

By Sinea Pies

So where do you find a “green and yellow basket” when you need one? You Google it and come up with this amazing cake creation by Brianna.
Green and Yellow Basket Cake
food art
Yes, this really is a cake!

As I said in my Love Baskets! post, I love baskets. Every shape. Every kind. I used to have a great big one for my dog’s multiplied marrow bones but it disintegrated with age. (Could have built our own museum exhibit with them–“This is what a cow looked like, kids”.) We threw the bones away and started over.
So, I went on a search, looking for some really great examples of types, uses and styles of baskets. Here’s what I found…
Bunny Basket

Wouldn’t this make a beautiful centerpiece?
Easter eggs for the holiday.
Fruits or flowers the rest of the year.
Did I hear “cookies”? That’s a lot of cookies, kiddo, but works for me!
Nesting Baskets
This is my favorite. I love baskets that fit inside each other and MATCH. I love matching things.
decorative baskets; wicker baskets; storage

These furry friends are obviously enjoying my favorite baskets, too.

And then there are…

Hey, if they can be “in a hat”…they can be in a basket. 🙂

(nope!)

Of course, we just grazed the surface in the world of baskets. There are laundry baskets, grocery baskets, Easter baskets…what other kinds of baskets can you think of?

Love Baskets!

By Sinea Pies

What is your favorite organizing tool? Mine has to be baskets. I love them. Wicker. Plastic. Wooden. Wire. All types of baskets.
We just recently renovated our home and we opened up the kitchen big-time  There was a wall between our kitchen and dining-room that had to come down. On holidays, especially, we were cramped for room. We have a wonderfully large family. Four of our five children now have families of their own. Ten of them, with spouses, plus twelve grandchildren and three great-grands. We were bumping into each other!
So, we took down the wall between the kitchen and the dining-room and put a peninsula where the wall had been. The counter-space is wonderful but, as counters do, it attracts more clutter. The mail collects there. Dishes that are “moving” from the table to the sink can get hung upon that counter. Whoa, can it get messy!
This isn’t the worst it has looked but it’s close!
As you can see, a lot of it is mail and magazines.
So, I kept my eye out for a brown wicker basket that would be large enough for magazines, but not ridiculously large.
I found this one at Target. It’s perfect!
And, as you can see, I accomplished my goal of “just big enough for magazines” and a little more.
What is your favorite organizer?
