How To Select The Best Christmas Lights This Year

With the Christmas season almost upon us, it is likely that your to-do list is swelling, and it can be overwhelming trying to get in order the huge number of things you have to buy. Christmas lights are just one of the many items you will be probably be purchasing this Christmas season, and it can be tempting to perfunctorily purchase the first string of lights you see.

Fortunately, with some basic knowledge of how to select the best Christmas lights, you should be able to purchase without difficulty a set of Christmas lights that gives your Christmas decorations that extra oomph while being as cost effective, safe and convenient to use as possible. Here are our tips on how to select the best Christmas lights this year.

Solar powered versus traditional
One of the key decisions you will need to make in selecting your Christmas lights is whether to purchase solar powered Christmas lights, which use LED bulbs, or traditional Christmas lights, which are composed of incandescent light bulbs. It is widely acknowledged that solar powered Christmas lights are the more cost effective and environmentally friendly option due to their longer lifespan and the fact that they do not consume electricity. Solar powered Christmas lights also do not carry the risk of causing accidental fires due to the absence of electrical wiring in their makeup.

Intended location
You will need to consider where you want to string up your Christmas lights as this can influence what sort of Christmas lights are more convenient for you. Traditional Christmas lights must be plugged into a power source. You will therefore need easy access to plug points, which can be a problem when your Christmas lights are needed outdoors. Solar powered Christmas lights, on the other hand, do not require electricity and can be hung up anywhere but will need a few hours of sunlight prior to lighting up. They are thus particularly suitable for outdoor use, but indoor use is also recommended if they can be exposed to sunlight through an open window, for instance.

Appearance
As the key function of Christmas lights should be to enhance your home aesthetically, you will want to ensure that the Christmas lights you purchase produce the best possible visual impact when installed. Solar powered Christmas lights tend to be brighter and are great for outdoor installation, while traditional Christmas lights tend to be softer. There are however softer solar powered Christmas lights on the market as well.
Solar powered Christmas lights do not require power outlets and multiple strands can therefore be hung at one spot, while traditional Christmas lights are limited by the number of power outlets available. It is best to survey the areas of your home you wish to decorate with Christmas lights and then assess the viability of the Christmas lights on the market before making your purchase.
Purchasing and installing Christmas lights is for many a necessary part of their pre-Christmas preparations. Selecting your Christmas lights is a relatively straightforward affair if you are aware of what factors to look out for.
