Happiness is Homemade Link Party 226 Features of the Week

So let’s get started with some great features. I have a little DIY, a couple of recipes (beverage and dessert) and a beautiful garden to share.

I was intrigued when I saw the title to this post shared by Vineta of The Handyman’s Daughter: How to Apply Edge Banding to Plywood. I’ve done a few simple carpentry projects in my DIY life using plywood and there is always the issue of covering the raw edges. This tutorial gives you everything you need to know. I’ve Pinned it and if you thing you might ever need to make something with wood, so should you.

Disclosure: Lisa of The Purple Hydrangea is a personal blogger friend of mine who lives about 1 hour away and we are part of a group of Texas bloggers who get together about 4 times a year for (exchange of blog ideas) lunch. But I didn’t realized this was Lisa’s post when I clicked on it. I just knew I loved the look of this farmhouse bench and I wanted to know how to make it. She shows you how to create a farmhouse finish on new wood and make it look like it had been sitting in grandma’s kitchen for decades. I happen to know that this picture is from Lisa’s booth at the McKinney Antique Mall, which is one of my favorites in the area.

I love galettes, which are France’s version of pie. Instead of dough carefully placed in a pie plate, galettes are more free~formed. This berry~filled galette created by Brandi of Home Cooking Memories is easy if you are pie shy. And it’s made for individual servings. Love that.

Summer is the time for sipping something cold and refreshing and this Rosé Sangria from Kit of The Kittchen not only looks cold and refreshing, but it’s just so darn pretty. Love those glasses and straws. Drink, anyone?

Another Disclaimer: Carol of The Red Painted Cottage is also a personal blogger friend. She’s from Michigan and we formally met 2 years ago at Haven Conference. As it turns out, her son lives about an hour away from Dallas and she was visiting a few weeks ago which called for a blogger lunch (Any excuse for lunch is a good one.) She mentioned that her peonies were blooming in Michigan and I lamented that mine were already done and gone. When I clicked on this party link, I discovered that this gorgeous peony was hers. I had to read about it. I don’t know anyone who doesn’t love peonies so I hope you enjoy this post, too.

I’m just happy that you dropped in to share what you have been working on and what you want to read about. Summer is in full swing, but I can’t say that it is any slower or more relaxed, but I sure want it to be that way. But it’s also the hardest job, but there is just so much darn good stuff you all are creating out there. I also love being introduced to other bloggers I may not know. So keep up the good work. DIY Father’s Day Tray

Father’s Day is next Sunday, so I thought this sweet tray project from Janice and Susan (they’re twins) from 5 Minutes for Mom would be one that anyone could make in a day. It could be adapted for any occasion or for everyday use.

DIY Storage Solution Does Double Duty

I’m a Gemini (My birthday is this coming week!) and I love doing 2 things at once and things that serve 2 purposes. So I loved this storage and seating solution from Vineta at The Handyman’s Daughter. She give great, detailed instructions for this super cute farmhouse inspired bench.

Painted Pavers Give a Punch of Art to a Walkway

Do you have that side yard that gets neglected? I sure do and that’s why I fell in love with this project from my friend Joy at The Aspiring Home. I first met Joy last summer at Haven Conference and then this spring when we were both in the One Room Challenge, I saw her amazing backyard makeover ~ so much that it was one of my top 5 backyard favorites. I was so happy to see that she shared how to make these gorgeous pavers for her side yard. What a beautiful design.

Key Lime Pie aways reminds me of summer beach vacations in Destin, Florida when my kids were little. I think Key Lime Pie tastes so refreshing and just shouts summer. Try Jas’ version from All That’s Jas.

Happiness Is Homemade Link Party

Welcome to this week’s Happiness is Homemade Party. It is a holiday weekend here in the U.S., which means an extra day off and lots of family fun. Hopefully you are enjoy some summer sunshine this weekend. Link up your best posts and stop by to visit some of the other bloggers too.

This week’s features!

I love the idea of taking traditional favorite foods and updating them with a new twist. This Spicy Chipotle Lime Coleslaw is a unique way to serve coleslaw.

Watching butterflies transform from caterpillars to butterflies is an amazing way teach kids about nature. Learn how and see some fabulous pictures in this post on Growing Butterflies.

Create Decorative Lanterns with Glass Paint. These lovely lanterns are made from glass jars and decorated to celebrate Ramadan.

Finally I love these tips for throwing a Summer Kebab Party! This would make a nice change from serving the standard hotdogs and hamburgers at your next summer gathering.
