Every July is the National Hot Dog Month in the USA.

Love a great bowl of chili? I do..any time of  year!  I prefer mine very thick and with lots of beans and ground beef.  
How do you like yours?

This recipe is simple. Feel free to add a little here and there. That is what I do. Chili is not an exact science!

Homemade Chili Recipe

Ingredients

1 large chopped onion
1 large chopped green pepper
2 T cooking oil
5 pounds 90% lean ground beef

2-3 cans hot chili beans
2-3 cans red kidney beans
1 large can crushed tomatoes
chili powder
salt
pepper
Directions
  • Heat a large pot on the stove, medium heat, with the oil in it. 
  • Add green peppers and onions.  
  • Stir till softened a little bit.  
  • Add the raw ground beef. 
  • Stir occasionally while browning it. 
  • Season with chili powder, salt & pepper according to taste.
  • Add drained kidney beans, chili beans (WITH their sauce), crushed tomatoes. 
  • Simmer.  
  • Ladle off excess liquid as you go.

Serve with toppings on the side. 
Let everyone put on what they like!

Shredded cheddar cheese
Chopped onions 
Sour cream
Salsa
Guacamole
Banana peppers
Tortilla chips

 When serving chili as the main dish, I provide condiments on the side. “Help yourself!”
