Happiness is Homemade Party #600

White pumpkin table decorations

Welcome to the Happiness Is Homemade Link Party #600!

WHAT A MILESTONE THIS IS!!!

I’m Katie from Love My Messy Messy Mess and it is my absolute pleasure to host our #600 blog hop as my last party for the month of August.

Looking back, I realized that I have been a hostess since 2015 – THAT IS 10 YEARS!  I didn’t even realize how long I had been participating.  Not to mention I didn’t even join at the very beginning of the party’s creation, so this party has been going on for a LONG TIME!  It looks like I started with party #88 – holy cow!

We’ve had many incredible hostesses over the years and I am proud to say that both myself, Sinea from Ducks ‘n a Row and Linda of A Labour of Life are the longest standing original hostesses – thank you ladies for your time and care!  Beverly from Eclectic Red Barn has also been with us for quite a long time too, maybe at least 8 years, is that right Bev?

We are so happy to have our two newest hostess’ on board – Susan from The Bay To The Beach and Esme of Esme Salon – whose enthusiasm and dedication is bringing a fresh new life to our party!

Even though our hosts have changed over the years, one thing still remains the same, our dedication to you – our readers – to bring you new and exciting content every week from your favorite bloggers.  We hope you enjoy exploring our link party as much as we love hosting it for you!

Miss the party last week? Click here to check it out!

This Week’s Features

To involve all of our incredible hostess’ for this monumental party, I’ve asked each to choose one feature to highlight this week.

Linda’s Pick

DIY Stretch Velvet Acorns

I’m pretty sure our resident Canadian blogger’s favorite season is fall – am I right Linda???  She is so crafty and loves a good DIY, so I’m not surprised she picked this DIY Stretch Velvet Acorns tutorial for her feature.  Let us know if you make them!

.

..

Sinea’s Pick

Chicken Walnut Stuffed Pumpkin
Not only do our hostess’ organize each week’s party but we contribute too!   Linda submitted this post for Chicken Walnut Stuffed Pumpkin and Sinea were all about it!  She especially loves the images Linda shared on her post – bravo!  This looks really tasty Linda, perfect for a single-mom’s dinner!

.

..

Bev’s Pick

Pine Cone Decor from Fall to Winter
Our hostess Bev is a HUGE DIY’er and lover of all things outdoors and country, so I’m not surprised she chose this post utilizing Pine Cone Decor from Fall to Winter for her feature.  I love using pinecones in my decor too, Bev!  I even have one hung in the house to help me tell if it’s going to rain that day or not.

.

..

Katie’s Pick (me!)
Electric Lemonade
I love lemonade so much, it’s one of my favorite summer time bevies.  Yes, yes I know summer is over BUT September is WNY where I live can still be quite warm!  So if you are looking to spice up your lemonade before it starts to get cold, try making this Electric Lemonade.

Susan’s Pick

Budget Friendly DIY Ghost Decor
As a newly single mom of three I am always looking for cheap and quick ways to decorate, and with Halloween being one of my FAVORITE holidays, I know that this post Susan chose will come in real handy – Budget Friendly DIY Ghost Decor.  You don’t have to spend hours or a small fortunate to making things look festive!

.

..

Esme’s Pick

Apricot Chickern with Truffle Oil Mustard

.This recipe looks so heart-warming and mouth-watering to me.  I know that soup season is upon us but I’m always down for a delicious chicken dish.  Esme chose this recipe for Apricot Chicken with Truffle Oil Mustard and I’m not going to lie – I’m adding truffle oil to next week’s grocery list to try this one out!

.

..

.

..

THANK YOU, LADIES, FOR HOSTING WITH ME THIS WEEK AND HELPING SELECT THE FEATURES!

I think I speak for all the hostess’ when I say how happy we are to provide this space for content creators and readers to share and enjoy.  Please help us spread the word by sharing this party on your socials!

Chocolate Lava Cake Recipe

Confessions of a Chocoholic: Yes, when I saw a picture of this decadent dessert,  it was calling my name. The moment I saw it I just had to track it down. Hey chocolate-lovers, doesn’t it look AMAZING? Well, here’s the recipe just for you (and me, too.)

Enjoy!

Chocolate Lava Cake recipes

This blog contains  Amazon  affiliate links. ♥

Chocolate Lava Cake

Ingredients

1 cup butter, melted
8 ounces semisweet chocolate or 8 ounces dark chocolate grated
1/2 cup granulated sugar
3/4 cup all purpose flour
5 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Ghiradelli dark chocolate

Premium Baking Chocolate

Directions

  • Preheat oven to 400 degrees F.
  • Grease butter into 8 ramekin* dishes. Grease liberally so it does not stick when you have to remove it.
  • In the top of a double boiler, or your favorite melting method, melt the chocolate, and stir in the butter.
  • Pour this into a large mixing bowl.
  • Sift in the flour and sugar and whisk together with melted chocolate.
  • Add eggs and keep whisking.
  • Pour mixture into prepared ramekins.
  • Bake for 10 minutes. Do not over-baked or you will not get the special melted center.
  • Serve warm with your choice of toppings. Ice cream is my favorite, but you could also add chopped nuts, melted chocolate or frosting.

Question: What’s a “ramekin” ?
Answer:    It is a cute little souffle dish.

Happiness is Homemade back to school week

It’s time for another great Happiness is Homemade link party and this week our host is Niki from Life as a LEO Wife . Niki will be choosing the features for the month of August.

Since we’re still in the back-to-school season, she will be sharing some features to help you get back into the groove of things. It’s always hectic when things first get started, so hopefully the features this week will help you out!  I am honored to see that Niki has picked my W is for Weather Preschool Lesson & Craft to be one of the features.

Donna of An Organized Season has a great post filled with ideas to help you get organized for back- to-school. These tips are sure to help you & include ideas for school shopping with closet organization that will help you have clothes ready every morning as well as organizing a dedicated study area that is important for your child to do well in their studies this year and much more.

.

These back-to-school printables created by Nicolle of Our Tiny Nest are absolutely adorable! She has four different designs in her post, including blank lunch box notes, a first day of school sign that’s perfect for all of those first day pictures (hint- laminate it and fill it out with a dry erase marker to use it through all 13 years of school for cohesive senior photos!), a morning checklist, and finally labels to add to all of those supplies.

Back to School Printables

If you are a teacher or you will still have little ones at home who are too young to go to school, this DIY weather craft, that includes a lesson and science experiments by Sinea of Ducks ‘n a Row, looks like so much fun! She includes free printables to make the craft as well as science experiments, like a tornado in a bottle and shaving cream rain clouds, that are not only fun for littles but will also teach them about weather at the same time. This is great for a pre-school class or even for your 3- or 4-year-old that is heartbroken that they can’t get on the bus and go to school with your older kiddos!

Slow cooker meals are a lifesaver for those working moms and dads out there, especially when school is in and there are a thousand after school activities to do! Jenny over at Cook Eat Go shared a SUPER easy slow cooker Coca Cola pulled pork slider recipe that anyone can put together in minutes and only takes a few ingredients.

Once you have your first after school dinner complete, what would be more fun and exciting to your little ones than to serve it at this fun back to school table setting created by Linda of A Labour of Life? I absolutely love this tablescape! It’s filled with childlike whimsy, with its chalkboard place cards and chalk on the table to use while waiting to be served or after eating, school supplies as a centerpiece, and writing strips used as menu cards. It’s perfect for kids and adults alike.

How To Take Attendance At Your Event The Easy Way

When hosting a group event such as a school open house, scout troop meeting, business seminar or church workshop – anything where the attendees will be handed written material – use this technique and you will quickly know who did or did not show up. It is a simple process of elimination.

This blog contains Amazon affiliate links ♥

How to take attendance the easy way

Moms know a whole lot of tricks to make life easier, don’t we! Well, this one I learned as a high school guidance counselor and, later on, as the administrator of a PreK – 12 school. We would have such large events that, when sharing important written information such as the parent-teacher handbook, it was challenging to know who received it and who did not. This technique worked perfectly every time and became a great way of taking attendance!

The simple tip: label it! Yes, whether you write out their names by hand or print off some snazzy labels, put those take-homes into a nice envelop and print their names on the cover. Hand the packets to each attendee. The names of those who did not get theirs are on the outside of the leftover packets.

360 PCS Removable Labels, 14 Colors Self-adhesive Rectangular Stickers Water/Oil/Tear Resistant with Perforation Line for Food Containers Kitchen Restaurant Storage Organization (8 Sheets, 2 Sizes)

colored removable labels

Here is an EXAMPLE:     Today is our annual “meet the teacher” get together for preschool. I wrote a nice 2-page introduction with important FAQ’s like the school hours, what to wear (i.e. if your child comes to school wearing sandals, bring sneakers for gym), food, what fun we will have, etc. Then I printed out copies to give to all of the parents, my teaching assistants and the principal.

Now, I could have labeled the actual page – that method works fine – but today’s meeting is outdoors so,  I chose to use envelopes to protect the letter from the elements. On the outside of each one I wrote “To The Parents Of …” and the child’s name.

*Using the child’s name (first name or first + last name) is helpful since children do not always have the same last name as their parents or guardians.

After the event is over, I can easily figure out who wasn’t there as I will still have their labeled envelop!  I can then either email or mail the information to them or have it ready to hand to them on the first day of school. So simple.

And that’s my little attendance taking tip!

hot air balloon on a blue sky

When you were a child did you equate the arrival of summer with the 4th of July??? You did?  Me, too!  The fireworks and picnics and trips to the beach and parades were something we little kids looked forward to.  Summertime had begun!

You will see the marks of summer and sunshine in many of our guests’ posts this week and for some weeks to come. Personally, I love everything about this time of year. That’s why I picked a hot air balloon for this week’s party image.  All part of the beauty of our celebrations.  So, enjoy our features of the week, all yummy recipes, and browse what has been shared on our party.  Yippee!
