How To Take Attendance At Your Event The Easy Way

When hosting a group event such as a school open house, scout troop meeting, business seminar or church workshop – anything where the attendees will be handed written material – use this technique and you will quickly know who did or did not show up. It is a simple process of elimination.

How to take attendance the easy way

Moms know a whole lot of tricks to make life easier, don’t we! Well, this one I learned as a high school guidance counselor and, later on, as the administrator of a PreK – 12 school. We would have such large events that, when sharing important written information such as the parent-teacher handbook, it was challenging to know who received it and who did not. This technique worked perfectly every time and became a great way of taking attendance!

The simple tip: label it! Yes, whether you write out their names by hand or print off some snazzy labels, put those take-homes into a nice envelop and print their names on the cover. Hand the packets to each attendee. The names of those who did not get theirs are on the outside of the leftover packets.

colored removable labels

Here is an EXAMPLE:     Today is our annual “meet the teacher” get together for preschool. I wrote a nice 2-page introduction with important FAQ’s like the school hours, what to wear (i.e. if your child comes to school wearing sandals, bring sneakers for gym), food, what fun we will have, etc. Then I printed out copies to give to all of the parents, my teaching assistants and the principal.

Now, I could have labeled the actual page – that method works fine – but today’s meeting is outdoors so,  I chose to use envelopes to protect the letter from the elements. On the outside of each one I wrote “To The Parents Of …” and the child’s name.

*Using the child’s name (first name or first + last name) is helpful since children do not always have the same last name as their parents or guardians.

After the event is over, I can easily figure out who wasn’t there as I will still have their labeled envelop!  I can then either email or mail the information to them or have it ready to hand to them on the first day of school. So simple.

And that’s my little attendance taking tip!

What Decluttering Will Do For You!

Having trouble getting things done?  There is a way to fix that.  Simplify your life. Start decluttering!  Creating a simple, clutter-free environment will make it easier for you to pay attention to those things that, right now, you just can’t get done!

Simplify - pretty white vase

How does that work?

  1. Visually, an organized room is pleasing to the eye. You will like being there.
  2. Emotionally, the sense of accomplishment feels good – really good!
  3. Things don’t get lost!
When your home is organized, you know where all of your stuff is. Think of all the time spent trying to find something when everything is a mess. And, get this, when your home is organized it will be OK for company to just drop in. Imagine that!  In fact, it looks so good that you may actually hope someone drops in!   Being organized brings order to your universe and, suddenly, “all is right with the world.”

Now here is the best part about “found-time.”  This is when you can look for the the things to pursue that will put the “WOW FACTOR” into your life!
  • Maybe there is a hobby you always wanted to pursue.
  • Maybe you will resurrect a life-long ambition!
  • Perhaps you have been yearning for more time with family and friends. Now you will have it!
  • Whatever that Wow Factor is, it will give you energy just thinking about it!

Motivational speaker Brian Klemmer says in his book   “If How-To’s Were Enough, We Would All Be SKINNY, RICH & HAPPY”  that you need to find a vision and define the WHY behind your goals. He encourages the reader to start on their biggest goal now, even if you aren’t sure that it is the right one. He points out that it is easier to guide a ship that is moving than one that refuses to leave the dock! So, his strongest advice in this book is: get started NOW!
.
.

Steps to your dream:

  1. Clear the clutter and get organized. (Do not strive for perfection. It will slow you down.)
  2. Apply your new-found time to your biggest goal.
  3. Search for the “WHY.” Get quiet and pray. You need to know the purpose behind what you are about to do.
What is the “why?” According to Klemmer, it is “the fuel that powers your goals and meaning to your accomplishments.” In other words, when it is that inspired “God idea,” you would be willing to climb Mt. Everest to make it happen! (And climbing Mr. Everest ain’t easy!)

“So, how do I begin?”  I could try to tell you but I have to say that Terri Savelle Foy does it better.  Her book “Declutter Your Way To Success” lays it out so simply and is so motivating.

To give you a taste of what this “cheerleader of dreams” has to say about how to declutter your way to success, watch this video. She explains it really well.

So, if you thought you were enjoying life already…clear the clutter and see what happens.
It will take your life to a whole new level!

The Simple Way To Keep Clutter Out Of Your House!

“But, clutter is already in my house!” Well, this new habit will keep clutter out but it also can get clutter out, if it’s in there. All you have to do is start wherever you are.

Organizing tips, decluttering, home
Clutter has a life of its own, doesn’t it? It grows! Before long, you cannot find your stuff. Hey, you might have places where you can’t even MOVE! Last week we talked about organizing with 5 quick steps to take control. They work so, don’t ignore them!   This lesson presents a habit that, if you get serious about it, will keep clutter from piling up again.

plush hotel quality blue towels

Simple Rule = 1 item in? 2 items go out!

I just used this decluttering technique with some towels. Take a look at the frayed edges of my old towels. New ones were long overdue! I love my new, fluffy blue towels. They are luxurious.
Clutter has a life of its own ... it GROWS! #organizing #tips Share on X
organizing tips that work

Now, do I want to put those old towels back in my closet? No way.

So, I have 3 choices on what to do with them:

  1. Keep them in the garage for rags.
  2. Donate them to an animal shelter or veterinarians office (that’s my preference.)
  3. Or, toss them.

If I cannot get to a donation location in the next week, I will be throwing them out. If I do not get them out of my house quickly, they will stay forever!

TIp: Dragging your heels can turn this new habit into a nice intention that never comes to pass – beware!

Have you tried the 1 in, 2 out method? How did it go? Fun, isn’t it!

Enjoy!

3 Ways To Be More Productive At Home

Our homes have become increasingly more important throughout the entirety of quarantine. Between online learning, working from home, and finding new hobbies to do within your living space, we have spent quite a bit of time enjoying our home base. The issue that comes along with this new reality is separating ourselves from the comfort of our bedrooms and an environment that encourages us to stay productive.

3 ways to be more productive at home

On the other hand, COVID-19 has given us a unique opportunity to really optimize these spaces and encourage us to invest in ourselves and families. Shockingly, we spend about 90% of our time indoors, which has only increased with quarantine restrictions. As hard as it is to find that balance, success is attainable with just a little bit of effort and paying attention to the details! Keep reading for some solutions on how to best provide a climate that assists in your children’s learning as well as your own success.

Use phone applications

Mobile apps can help you perform at your peak and establish healthy habits. Between calendar apps and online delivery services there are many ways to utilize mobile tech to improve and increase your productivity. Naturally, when electing for the speed delivery brings, you automatically think of food or clothing delivery. However, there are so many other items you can have delivered that assist you in everyday chores.

For example: your everyday home essentials products. These items help you stick to productive routines while taking care of your home, your health and your family. And the fact that you can place an online order to get home and cleaning supplies delivered (often within the hour) is a huge win and can speed along necessary to-do’s you need to complete.

Additionally, eliminating the need to go to the store allows you more time to spend actually cleaning and improving the space. Your children will have an opportunity to help you out, too! Once your shopper drops your supplies at your door, you have the flexibility to continue working and delegate chores to them.

Organize your work space

Decluttering is imperative to productivity. Your environment directly impacts your wellbeing. When you feel good your work comes out better and you are in a better mindset to tackle your everyday responsibilities. Start off by getting the correct supplies you’ll need to organize this space. It could be a filing cabinet, charging station, bins for desk accessories, or even a new laptop case that gives your desk some structure to it.

Don’t forget desk top organizers! They are an efficient way to give your miscellaneous items a home while still being able to see the materials. Naturally, when items are stored in drawers, it can be difficult to locate them. Therefore when in a rush, drawers will become an unforeseen obstacle.

Similarly, you could also invest in clear storage bins. If your office is in a shared living area, consider assigning a bin to each family member! This way, you can see into each bin and are able to swiftly grab any materials needed for a task. Give your family the option to choose their favorite storage solution. With their input you will find what works best for your style, and see success sooner.

Take breaks throughout the day

Last but certainly not least, get some fresh air. Everyone needs a break to be fully connected with their tasks at hand. This goes for the whole family! Think about going for a family walk or encourage your kids to go for a quick bike ride at lunch. Any little outdoor activity will do more than you think to your productivity.

Working from home? 3 tips on how to work from home more productively! #organizing #wahm #tips Share on X

If going outside isn’t realistic for your family, there are still ways to get a useful break in. Think about doing a small craft. It can even be as small as doodling on a blank page for 10 minutes! If you do have more time, let your creative juices flow. Being productive in a creative setting will overflow into other areas of your life. Search for a small holiday craft, and decorate your home at the same time!

Whatever you choose to focus on, set a good example for your kids and show them how to create a space worth living in. With the amount of time we utilize our homes, it won’t be time wasted.

5 Small Storage Tips That Will Inspire Your Decorating

What is there about organizing small spaces that appeals to me? I just love maximizing space so that when you walk into the room you say “wow!”   Yes, it is the “wow factor” that tickles me.

Storage solutions for small spaces #homedecor #storage #tips

So, here are 5 small storage tips I found that will allow you to rearrange a room to make it feel larger but with simple changes.

I had so much fun searching out ideas.  See what I found and tell me what you like best.

Small Storage Space Tips

Floating Storage – if you have limited surface space, put your walls to work for you and hang “floating” shelves. They keep your floor space free and direct the eye upward. Those blessed with high ceilings will have lots of fun with this!

Now this is the greatest discovery I made in the “shelving” category:  a HIDDEN DESK! There are desks that fold up against the wall when you are not using them and “voila!” fold them down and you have a desk with shelving and storage space, too. One even doubles as a mirror!

I do not want to recommend a specific one, since currently I do not own one yet [I want one, though!] so let me give you the link to a page with many highly recommended folding desks => FOLDING DESKS

Mirrors – properly placed mirrors can optically “enlarge” your space. Bring the outdoors inside.

My mom made great use of this technique. We had a small family room with sliding glass doors going out into a lovely landscaped yard. She mounted two simple but very large mirrors on the wall across from those windows to “bring the outdoors, inside.” It was as if we had that lovely foliage throughout whole room. Just perfect!

Area Rugs – add brightness and definition to spaces with a new rug …. or two! This is a great technique for rooms where you do not want to clutter them up with a lot of furniture. Are you a floor-sitter? Cushy shag rugs make it so comfy!

Hard Working Furniture – use furniture that comes with hidden storage spaces. I love this idea. There are lots of ways that furniture can serve as storage, too. Tables with shelving underneath. Ottomans that double as storage boxes for toys, afghans or whatever. Stylish cabinets with hooks to hang things. Bookcases with removable decorative baskets are trendy.

Wall and Hanging Planters – adding live foliage to a room is invigorating. Rather than taking up counter top or table top space, mount or hang your planters.

How Declutter Your Desk Quick With These 5 Simple Tips

It happens to everybody: in spite of your best efforts to keep your work-space neat and organized, eventually you’ll find yourself facing a mess and unable to locate anything.  You need to declutter your desk quickly and here are 5 simple tips to show you how!

Quick tips on how to declutter your desk! #tips

These helpful tips should allow you to reduce the amount of clutter on your desk and keep everything looking tidy, allowing you to get everything you need to get done completed on time.

1. Create a Filing System

For starters, all that loose paperwork needs a place for quick retrieval later. Create a filing system that allows you to instantly access important paperwork because you’ll know exactly where it is.

Create this filing system based on the needs of your specific job. If you frequently must refer to specific document types but don’t remember the titles well, then a category based system would work best. This way you can remember approximately where it is before you start scrounging the desk.

If you frequently find yourself needing to pull specific documents, then an alphabetical system is ideal. The point is to make sure that when you need something, you know exactly where you put it.

2. Use Inboxes and Outboxes

Keeping a stack of paperwork you have to fill out, or otherwise requires your attention is a good way to serve as a reminder that there is work left to do. Having an outbox of completed documentation feels good. You are accomplishing something!  Be sure to keep the most time-sensitive documents at the top of the stack and set aside a certain time each day or week to tackle your inbox in order to make the most of your time and focus.

3. Create a To-Do List

Rather than simply depend on your memory, only to have it fail and leave you frantically comparing due dates to figure out what needs to be done first, keep a to-do list of tasks that need to be completed somewhere visible on your desk. This could be in the form of a physical notepad or set up on your Outlook or other office applications – even using Microsoft Notepad as a ‘to-do’ list can serve to keep yourself organized and productive. This can also help to save space by preventing all of your urgent work stacking up out in the open lest you forget that they need to be done.

4. Electronic Documents Storage

Reduce paper documentation by using cloud storage systems such as Dropbox or Google Drive.

This method will pay off in the long run by saving time on having to run documentation from one place to another by hand or running off copies on a sometimes faulty office copier.

5. Electronic Fax

Electronic faxing services allow you to fax information as easily as sending an e-mail.  Using an electronic fax system saves you time by no longer requiring you to print out the document and then send the fax… or wait in line if it happens to be a busy office fax.

Declutter your desk almost instantly with these 5 tips #tips #organizing Share on X

By taking a little time to organize, and following this basic advice, you can save space and, in the long run, save hours of time that would normally be spent hunting down documents in a cluttered desk or picking up paperwork that got accidentally scattered or waiting on unnecessary print jobs. For those of you who are in management positions – encouraging these practices will also help to improve workplace efficiency and productivity in the long run.

Enjoy!

How To Keep Track Of Important Dates

Family calendar for moms - and dad's! #ad

Small families have little trouble keeping track of birthdays and other important dates. Mom, Dad and Baby aren’t easily forgotten. But as your family grows and, instead of just 3 or 4 dates, you have 20 – 30 – even 40+ birthdays to recall, you are going to need a system. You had better have a plan!

This blog contains affiliate links. ♥

There are many great calendars, planners and organizing gadgets to help you keep track of all those significant dates.
One of the most fun and popular is>> ☑️ Sandra Boynton’s Mom’s Family Wall Calendar!  I love that it comes with 9 fridge magnets and a host of colorful stickers (moms love stickers, too!)
The price is right at slightly under $16 but at special times of year you will probably find a nice discount on Amazon! If you are a bargain hunter, check back often.

If wall calendars are not your style, she also makes a Mom’s Family Desk Planner Calendar – which is a handy size that can stay on your desk or be put in a tote bag – and a very special Mom’s Birthday Calendar that I really love. Keeping yourself organized this way is fun!

How to keep track of important dates in 2019 #tips #organizing Share on X

How To Keep Track Of Important Dates

1. Find a perpetual calendar or journal for you to write those dates down. Using an online calendar is fine but, as you know, glitches happen and all of your hard work may be lost. A written version is long-lasting. Hang it on the wall or refrigerator or keep it right on your desk to refer to often.
2. Soon as a new child is born or adopted into your family, record their name and birthday on the correct month. Include the YEAR they were born. That will solve the “how old are they now?” mystery in years to come. You will know the answer precisely.
3. At the end of each month,  add birthday reminders for the upcoming month on your smartphone so that you are right on top of things. If you are an online shopper, that is the time to go to Amazon or your other favorite stores to buy your gifts and cards. Talk about organized!

Enjoy!
