How To Clean And Store Dusty Baseball Caps

Today I finally had it with the mess on the shelf in my hall closet. Gloves, scarves and hats were tossed here and there. Boots were stored in some baskets but they weren’t laying flat because some old dog leashes were caught underneath.  It was just time to get it all straightened out.

How to dust old baseball caps #tips

As I started, I discovered so many old baseball caps stashed there that we could stock a baseball cap shop with them! There were so many caps because each one held a special memory for the wearers. I couldn’t talk them into giving any away.  The New York Yankees, Cleveland Indians, Chicago White Sox and several little league teams were represented in that group of hats. There was even an NFL Cleveland BROWNS hat that I have no explanation for. We are Buffalo Bills fans so its presence in the cap collection is a mystery to me.

As I sorted through the jumble of the cotton twill baseball caps, I held my breath, there was so much dust. They were coated with it! Brushing them off was not working, so here is what I did to get them clean:

In a hurry and just want a GREAT affordable way to store your baseball caps?
Here it is=> ☑️  the DUST FREE, MOISTURE FREE BASEBALL CAP STORAGE BAG!

..

.

How To Dust Off Cotton Twill Baseball Caps And Store Them

  1. Select the baseball caps that you want to keep.
  2. Place them in your clothes dryer with a full fabric softener dryer sheet.
  3. Dry them on the lowest heat for 10-15 minutes.
  4. Remove them from the dryer. You should find that most, probably all, are dust-free and ready to wear or put away.
  5. Store them on a hat rack, in a baseball cap storage bag or in a storage basket. They will be in one place and easy to find in the future.

Dust may not be the only problem with your dirty baseball caps. Some may have stains or have discolored with age. If so, after you have dusted them, try washing them.  Caps can be washed in the washing machine, dishwasher or in a bucket or sink.  I prefer the sink method:

How To Wash A Baseball Cap

  1. Fill a sink with warm water.
  2. Add 1 T. laundry detergent.
  3. Dunk the baseball cap in the water and gently rub the spots using a rough wash cloth or sponge.
  4. Swish it, now, around in the water.
  5. Rinse it in cool water.
  6. Lay the baseball cap out on a clean dry towel or clothes drying rack till it is dry.

How To Store Baseball Caps

There are 5 GREAT WAYS that I have found for storing baseball caps:

  1. Put them in a storage basket. I use a nice size plastic storage bin or you could pick a nice decorative wicker basket on a shelf.
  2. Hang them from a cap rack on the back of a door. Perfect for the baseball player’s bedroom!
  3. Use a plastic storage bag that is designed specifically for caps.
  4. Hang them from a baseball cap hanger in the closet.
  5. Get a nice wooden baseball cap rack!

Enjoy!

Family Emergency Preparedness Plan

Is your family ready, in case of an emergency? If you are not, now is the time to make a family emergency preparedness plan. September is National Preparedness Month and there are some great resources available to help us think through the details and get going on it.

This blog contains affiliate links. ♥

Storms

We can all start by examining our cupboards and garages to see what important items are not there so that we can get them. In addition, as a family discuss these 4 important details : how to sign up for alerts, have a shelter plan, make an evacuation plan and determine family needs.

Does your family have a generator?
Check out the ☑️ BEST selling portable gas-powered generators. <<HERE!

What really got me thinking about this was when I read latest Presidential Proclamation about preparedness. It emphasizes the importance of every family taking strides toward having important supplies and a family plan in place.

Have you ever gone through a natural disaster? Our community has faced blizzards, windstorms (one blew a freight train off its tracks) weeks-long ice storms and rain-induced floods.

In recognizing the many disasters that our nation has suffered recently, the president also shared his deep appreciation for those who help us all in times of need. First responders work tirelessly to clear roads, get the lights back on, rescue the stranded, bring medical assistance to the sick / injured and get the community back on track. Words are not enough to say just how wonderful these people are.

Sometimes we forget that in many cases the first responders live right in our communities. They are helping us while their own families are suffering the ravages of the same storm.

The proclamation mentions all kinds of disasters that have afflicted us in just this past year including hurricanes, tornadoes, floods, wild fires and even volcanoes. No area is exempt and it behooves us to be as prepared as possible.

No fear here! If you are like me, the thought of having my family prepared for something horrible that might happen is unnerving. There is that looming feeling that you can never do enough. It is expensive to buy things you will not be using and many families are living paycheck to paycheck. So what do you do?

Do not worry about doing all of it in a day, just get started! Keep a list and check off the items as you buy them. Get something from the list every week and start stashing it away. Who knows, if trouble comes something that you have a lot of may help someone else and they, in turn, may have something you were not able to get. People pull together in difficult times. And, on the bright side, you may never need to use any of it. That is what I am planning on: never having to use any of it.

Emergency Supplies

So, here are some of things to have on hand:

Baby supplies – formula, diapers etc.

Batteries – all kinds!

Battery powered candles

Battery powered radio

Bottled water

Books, games, paper, pencils, coloring books & crayons … to pass the time.

Camp cook stove

Can opener – manual

Cash or travelers checks

Chlorine bleach & medicine dropper to purify water

Documents – keep important paperwork in waterproof/fire proof cover (take a picture of each page, too, for digital copies)

Emergency Kits for car and work

Extension cords

Fire-starters

Firewood

First Aid Kit

Flashlights

Garbage bags

Gasoline for generator with stabilizer in it

Gas powered generator

Matches – waterproof are best.

Medications – prescription and non-prescription

NOAA weather alert radio*

Non-perishable foods – canned and dry foods in water-tight containers for everyone in your family, including pets.

Paper products – paper plates, cups, plastic ware, napkins, paper towels

Propane tank for grill

Propane gas grill

Sleeping bags / warm blankets

Tools

Water

Water pump – submersible.

Wet Vac for storm cleanup

Wet Wipes

How To Make Your Busy Days Go So Much Better

I received compensation from Bayer Consumer Health, makers of MiraLAX® to write this post. MiraLAX® is a laxative used to treat occasional constipation. All opinions are entirely my own. #EaseTheDay #CollectiveBias

Busy days can be stressful days or they can be happy days. I think that one of the keys to making busy days happy ones is to plan ahead.

One of my primary goals in the summertime is to make the most of the weather. After all, we spend such a long time waiting for summer to come that, when it finally does, I don’t want to waste even one sunny day! So, whatever needs to happen to keep time free to go to the beach or the zoo or just play outside, I make sure it happens. That is where my checklist comes in so handy.

Make busy days go so much better #ad

Personally, I love using checklists like this one to myself keep on track. The important things will not be forgotten or overlooked so that I can rest easy and enjoy the day. I created this checklist for the summer months and have included a link to a FREE PRINTABLE at the end of this post for you to print one for yourself, as well. I hope it helps you as much as it did for me.

When I plan ahead, I think about what could get in the way if I forgot to do it. If I was late in paying a bill, for instance, it would really mess things up. The list helps me to remember important things like that.

What can really make a good day a bummer is occasional constipation. You know how it is. You feel sluggish and uncomfortable. I used to feel compelled to stay home on days like that until the problem was solved. Stay home on a sunshiny day? I don’t think so!  That is why Miralax® is listed as “essential” on my check list. It is easy to take and easy on your body.

My checklist for summer planning #ad

MiraLAX® is a safe and effective brand you can trust. I sure do.

  • MiraLAX® works with your body’s natural process to provide effective relief from occasional constipation. Because it works with the body, MiraLAX® provides a gentle experience, and doesn’t cause harsh side effects.
  • Use as directed.
  • MiraLAX® is different from stimulant laxatives.
    • Stimulant laxative pills make your body go by forcefully stimulating the nerves in your colon. MiraLAX® works with the water in your body to hydrate, soften, and ease, unblocking your system naturally.

How to make busy days go so much better #ad

When I was at Walmart, I found  MiraLAX®  in the easy to pour bottle and was so happy that it also comes in MiraLAX® Mix-In Pax®.  Bringing a packet of MiraLAX® along with me is so much easier than toting around a bottle on days that I am out and about. I can just open the packet and add it to whatever beverage I am drinking. Easy.

How to make your busy days go so much better #ad

So, I bought one of each!

Denim Pocket Organizer – Pillar Box Blue

The first time I saw a Claire Armstrong project, it was her ultra-popular denim pocket wall organizer made from blue jeans.  Soon as it caught my eye, I couldn’t get away from it. It was just so cute. Such a brilliant idea. I must have pinned it at least 5 times -maybe more- because I didn’t want to lose track of it. I think everybody did!

Next, I was browsing through the entries at our weekly blog hop and came across an awesome project. It was a “how-to on making burlap luggage bag-tag  PILLOWS from a map” tutorial. The pillows have that vintage flavor to them, like you’d just found them in grandpa’s attic. But they aren’t old. Claire made them!

5 Super Simple Ways For Pet Owners To Get Organized

We love our fur babies, don’t we! Yes, we love them, we cuddle them, we play with them and we buy them toys. Heck, I just bought my puppy a sweater! Never thought I’d see the day that I would buy clothes for my dog but she looks so cute in it.

5 simple ways to organize your pet's stuff

With all the joy our beloved pets bring to our lives they also bring more paraphernalia to stash and lots more cleaning to do. But we don’t mind. It’s part of being a pet parent.

Just as with our own stuff, there comes a time where we need to find a place for all the gear. Organizing your pet’s things can be fun – really! Here are five simple ways to keep your puppy’s [or kitty’s] belongings organized and easy to find:

Hooks – use decorative hooks for hanging leashes, collars and dog apparel. Aren’t these little doggie behinds adorable? For those who like a subtler look, a nice pet command station may be up your alley.Hooks to organize dog stuff

Baskets – wicker baskets – and fabric ones, too – are lovely to look at and so convenient for stashing pet toys. They are perfect for Fido’s or Fluffy’s vitamins and medications, too.Storage baskets are perfect for your pet's stuff

Cleanup Pail – place a large pail just outside the door to the house or in  your mudroom that will hold their shampoo, pet cleanup bags, brush ( I love the furminator!)  and towel for those muddy paws!

Doggie Travel Bag – keep a “doggie on the go” bag packed for your pooch. Whenever you want to hop in the car and take your dog with you, it will be packed and ready!

Treat Jar– make it easy for you – and not so easy for your fur babies – to get to their treats by putting them in a decorative container right on the kitchen counter. I really like this one!

Keep Your House Clean In Just 30 Minutes A Day

Doing something every day – just 30 minutes invested – can help your already clean house to STAY clean on a regular basis. Here are some expert tips from cleaning-pro Pamela Garner to help you stay on task!

This blog contains affiliate links. ♥

1. Make a schedule and stick to it!
If you choose a regular time to clean every week, especially if you want your whole family to participate, it will provide consistency that will ensure the job gets done. It will also encourage good habits in everyone.

2. Make a list of cleaning priorities before you clean.
Checking things off lists can make you feel more accomplished and it’s a great way to stay organized.

3. Work in sections.
If you bounce from one room to another you may feel disoriented and overwhelmed. Start in one corner of the room and focus on the task you are doing then work your way across. No backtracking! Walk around the room once and you’re done then go back once for the floor.

4. Start with your least favorite room or area.
Might seem counter intuitive, but getting that bathroom or junky hallway out of the way at the beginning will make the rest of your cleaning seem like a breeze.

5. Pick up clutter first.
Picking up will automatically make everything look cleaner. Do this before you actually clean surfaces so you have less to clean around.

6. Always start at the top of the room and work your way down.
This way dust all ends up on the ground before you vacuum. If you work in the opposite way dust from the top will fall onto areas you have already cleaned below.

7. Always clean with dry things before wet.
So wipe off and dust surfaces before using any kind of wet cleaner. Getting rid of a lot of stuff with the dry cloths prevents streaking and spreading of dirt.

Professional cleaning caddy

8. Take your cleaning tools with you from room to room.
The best way to do this can be a cleaning apron with pockets or a bucket. I suggest finding the right supplies (this is important) and then organizing them in some kind of bucket or tote. Just store them in the bucket all the time and all you have to do is pull it out and all your tools are there at your disposal. Plus they’re easy to carry!

9. Deal with stains early!
If you leave stains on carpet or furniture for long period of time they can become permanent.

10. When removing stains from clothing work from the back to the front of the fabric.
This keeps the stain from spreading deeper into the fabric as you’re working on the front.

11. Turn off your phones while you clean.
Try to eliminate any other distractions like televisions or computers too.

12. Make the house smell fresh!
Febreze and other odor killers for air and fabrics do this, but my personal favorite is leaving baking soda on the carpet for a few hours before vacuuming (some people suggest overnight).

13. Take pictures of your home (or specific “problem rooms”) when it is completely decluttered and cleaned.
It may seem a little silly, but I used to take pictures of a room I had cleaned and post them on the inside of the door. This was the way I wanted the room to look, and with pictures, whoever in the family used the room could see it was possible.

14. Control Clutter daily.
Try to make a daily effort to keep down the clutter in your home so you have less to clean next time. The more you deal with things as they happen the better.

15. Maximize your cleaning time.
Sometimes cleaning can be dull and there are so many better things we could all be doing with our time. A way to fight this problem is to find an easy and fun background task. No, I don’t mean turn on your computer or phone while cleaning. Don’t even think about work or anything distracting. Paying attention and focusing on the task are important for speed. You should also not do anything while speed cleaning that requires one hand – use both hands to clean.

But you can find an activity you enjoy (that requires no hand or heavy brain power) and may not get to do otherwise. This will make your cleaning time feel a little bit more like a treat. Just make sure you can still focus on the task at hand: cleaning with speed.

A couple of examples:

  • If you don’t have much time to read and miss reading great books, buy some books on tape and listen to them as you clean.
  • Good music, especially upbeat or something you haven’t gotten to listen to in awhile, can really do the trick. Plus, if no one’s around you can fit in some quality dancing time with the mop.
  • Cleaning is also great exercise.
  • Need basketball practice? Shoot hoops with the laundry and other things while putting them away.
  • When I am picking up or cleaning with kids I often challenge them to a competition: either that I can pick up more things than them or that I can finish picking up half of the room faster then them. This is just good old fashioned fun competition and always gets everyone a little bit more excited about the chore. It’s even fun with other adults.

3 Simple Time Savers In The Kitchen

household hints, kitchen hacks, moms, tips
How much time do you spend in the kitchen? There are times when I feel like I live there. Those are the days that I’d like to do a “Lisa Douglas” of Green Acres fame – clear the table of the dirty dishes,  open the window and throw them out! Lisa took “speed cleaning” to a whole new level!
In truth, there are ways to cut down the time we spend in the kitchen ⇒ and abandoning the mess is NOT one of them.

3 Simple Steps To Save Time and Get You Out of the Kitchen Faster

1. Cooking Tip⇒ toss as you go. Put an empty trash bag or plastic grocery bag in the kitchen sink or on the edge of the counter. As you cut food for your meal, and open up packaging, put the trash all in that bag. You will save steps and time. When you are done, just take the bag out to the trash and say “goodbye!”
household hints, cooking tips, mom tips, momlife, cleaning, cooking
2. Enlist help from your family. Let them crack open the eggs, stir the mix, set the table. “Many hands make light work.“
3. Double Up! Plan your meals with leftovers in mind. Some families are delighted to enjoy “part 2” of a good meal the next night. For those who require variety, just freeze the second portion to pull out for another day.

My favorite dish to double up on is chili. I make a big pot, which we have with toppings on night #1. The second night, it becomes a topping for hot dogs or as a delicious chili salad served on greens. Then I freeze the remainder to pull out for a meal 2 or more weeks later. Note that the real cooking only took place one time but three great meals were produced. Smart!
So how about you? Any time-saving advice that will get us out of the kitchen faster?

How to Gift Wrap a Big Box!

If you have a big gift you are giving and want it to be really pretty, you need to know how to wrap a big box.   It’s easy!
wrapping a Rockabye Rocker for a gift

Not long ago, I shared my story  about the joy that plus toy rockers have brought to the little tykes in our family. I received four of them when I was hired by the company to write about these wonderful toys.

Well, three of the rockers went to our kiddos who live nearby  but we held onto the fourth one to give to our great-grandson, Little B, on his first birthday.

How Big Is Your Mountain Of Undone Stuff?

Do you feel like you are always behind? Things that need to be done have grown from molehills into mountains of “undone stuff?” Get it all done by first concentrating on tying up your many loose ends!
organizing, lists, checklists, planning, decluttering, cleaning, success

Ever heard the saying “It’s the little foxes that spoil the vines”? This age-old wisdom holds true.  Let the little things go undone for too long and the mole hill will become a mountain.  On its own, each item is no big deal.  Many of them left undone, though, makes for chaos and a sense of unrest.

Is there something lurking in the shadows that you forgot about? Perhaps an overdue bill or an important deadline?

How big is your mountain of undone stuff? #organizing #tips Share on X

Be encouraged.  A “Tying Up Loose Ends Day” will do a world of good.  Can’t give it a whole day? Then start by devoting an hour or two. You will get lots done and will LOVE how it feels.

What kind of loose ends are we talking about? See if any of these ring a bell…

Appointments that need to be scheduled:
  • Doctor
  • Dentist
  • Vet
  • Hair Dresser
  • Optician
Auto needs:
  • Oil change on the car/winterizing
  • Auto inspections
Financial duties that need attention:
  • Bills: pay them
  • Checkbook: balance it
  • FAFSA forms for college students in your home
  • Tax information updates
Repairs not done:
  • Replacing burned out light bulbs
  • Sewing repair jobs (buttons, loose hems)
  • Tightening screws on door handles, etc.
Relationships to catch up:
  • Writing “thank you” notes
  • Visiting a friend or relative (by phone or in person)
Routines ignored:
  • Checks:  reorder them
  • Coupons: clip / sort and discard expired
  • Empty pop bottles: return them
  • Family Calendar: fill in dates
  • Invitations: RSVP
  • Library Books: return or renew
  • License renewals (car registration, driver’s license, dog license…)
  • Mail: sort it and file/throw junk mail away
  • Prescriptions: reorder them
  • Smoke Alarms: replace batteries and test them

How about the secret recesses of the REFRIGERATOR?  Got some long-lost leftovers to sniff out and destroy? Yuck! (When you do clean it, don’t forget to clean the ice dispenser on the door of your frig.)

These are just some of those loose ends that, when accumulated, can seem overwhelming.  On the other hand, stressing over them or trying to get them done all at once can be equally debilitating.

So, fight the perfectionist inside of you and accept the fact that you can only do what you can do.  Schedule a time to tackle the list, check each item off one by one, and watch the stress go out the window.
OK, what did I miss on this list?  Anything nagging at you that needs to be there?  Share your thoughts with us!
