I am so glad you’re here to join us for the 398th Happiness is Homemade link party! I’m Niki, from Life as a LEO Wife, and I’m so enjoying visiting everyone’s wonderful posts that have been linked up during the month of October. You’re all still killing it with these awesome posts you’ve shared! Before we get to the party, let’s take a look at this week’s features.

This Week’s Features

I thought I’d get a few non-Halloween features in this week, and one is this post by Krafty Planner. In it, she gives us 7 tips to practice an attitude of gratitude. With Thanksgiving coming up next month (in the US) and the state of the world, we can forget all of the good that we still have. I did a month long devotional on this topic a few months ago, and practicing gratitude can truly change your entire day.

practice gratitude

Along the same lines of that is these adorable worry jars by Must Have Mom. They are too cute. Little ones are affected by external forces just as much as we are, if not more. With this idea, your child can write down their worries and let them go, as the put the paper in the jar. I like her idea of making this a cares jar and giving them all to God.

Congratulate us – We Just Hatched A Blog!

Ducks 'n a Row blog has a new look

This has been a long 12 days…but our blog is back!

The story begins with me being so overwhelmed by a string of health crises my husband has been going through. That is what inspired me to write the recent post “Ways To Streamline Your Responsibilities In The Midst Of A Crisis” In an ongoing crisis you learn to ditch activities that wear you out and lay aside the ones that are optional.

Truly, it feels as if we have gone to the Emergency Room at least once a week this summer. That may be an exaggeration but we have been there a lot!
In fact, one of the wonderful security guards at the hospital handed me a wad of free parking passes so that I could come and go without concern about paying to park my car. It can get expensive. What a blessing!

So, in all of the turmoil. I forgot to renew my domain name for my blog (a domain name is the Ducks ‘n a Row address that gets you here!) I was 2 days late. They happily renewed me but I guess it must have started the process over like it was brand new. When they renewed it, my blog could no longer find the internet.

Instantaneously the LIGHTS WENT OUT at Ducks ‘n a Row.

The domain name holders believed they were innocent of doing any harm. The experts in the Blogger forum took a look and said “no, it’s not Blogger, it is the domain holder for sure.”  And with all the advice that came my way, I was unable to fix the problem.

When you earn a living blogging, absence from an online presence for a length of time equals lost income and sharply declining stats. Sponsors look at statistics so it is important to keep those traffic numbers up. Zero is BAD!

I had no choice. It was finally time to move to Word Press. I had heard that WP is a big blessing but it was a scary unknown world to me.

Sometimes the things that are best for us are the very things we have been trying to avoid. That being said … I hired a design company – Five J’s Design – who had done a phenomenal job for some bloggers that I admire. With Joy’s help, and an abundance of wise advice from my blogging buddy, Marilyn from Marilyn’s Treats, I made my way through to victory. Ducks ‘n a Row is BACK!

Hey, Ducks 'n a Row blog is back and with a new look! #momblogger Share on X

As when any little baby is born …. a duckling or a “bloggling” … it looks a little messy. Know that I am working out the kinks …. there is a learning curve for sure. Actually, it is a fun adventure. But it feels so good to be back. REALLY good!

Of course,  we host the weekly Happiness is Homemade Link Party. If you are a blog hopper, be sure to come on by!

Tuesday there will be an awesome Cheese Spread Recipe on the blog. (It is 100% low carb, for those who care about carbs, and delicious for everybody. I received a batch as a Christmas gift from the parents of one of my students and soon as I tried it I had to have the recipe. It’s that good:)

And Tuesday evening at 7pm ET the Wonderful Wednesday Blog Hop begins.

So stop by and see the new design, visit a few posts and even share some? Let others know that we are back in business.

Oh yes, and you have to stop by the “Organizing” tab at the top of the page. One of my very first posts with a video of me explaining the premise of Ducks ‘n a Row is there. I had totally forgotten about that post and video. I’m actually glad it turned up. It’s good to revisit the vision from time to time.

BTW, I missed you!

Enjoy!

Note: this author is an Amazon affiliate. What does that mean? Well, anything that you buy from Amazon by first clicking on an ad, link or using an Amazon search window on Ducks ‘n a Row will, at no extra cost to you, result in a small commission for me. In advance “thank you!” … Sinea

Plagued by PET HAIR???

When I first tried a Shark vacuum cleaner I almost cried for joy.  Everything about it is wonderful.  That was over 10 years ago and SHARK is still my go-to vacuum for lots of reasons but, especially, the pet hair pickup.

Happy Fall Y’All!

Happy Fall y’all.  Hope you are having an amazing week and have been creating like crazy. For me I have been at a cottage in Calabogie ( Ontario). A vacation/staycation hoping to get inspired.  This week I have branched out to a few new areas for our features.

A crochet project, a fun garden inspiration and some tasty fall treats. All this to inspire you to share your favourite creation this week for Happiness is Homemade 339.

hih339

Vanity & Me is sharing her small Garden Oasis makeover. Showing us how you make something small look nice enough to want to sit in or have friends around?

Then we head over for An Apple for the Teacher. The Apple Street Cottage was inspired  with the kids going back to school (however that may look this year), the night air is getting crisp, and the apples are ripening in the orchards. She decided to create an apple that will stay fresh forever. Yes, you guessed it, it started with a pattern and some reclaimed wood!  apple craft

I was fascinated with Swirls of Flavor Chocolate Banana Bread.  Honestly it is a chocolate bread with bananas, a totally new to me idea. Bread so tasty you’ll not only want a slice for breakfast, you’ll want one for dessert too! Banana bread just got more delicious!

Mommy Hates Cooking has shared an amazing way to serve butternut squash. This Roasted Butternut Squash recipe adds some great flavors using olive oil and seasonings to really take this to a new level of delicious!

And a new to me feature some crochet art.  A scarecrow garland perfect for Fall and Halloween. Craft Attic Resources is bold enough to share a project she is not happy with but still willing to share.  Let see what her next version will look like.

What Is A Blog Hop and Why Do I Care?

What is a blog hop? #blogging #bloggingtips #bloghops

What is a Blog Hop?

What is a Blog Hop? A blog hop is a social event where bloggers are invited to share links to their posts, visit others’ posts and endorse them.
How do visitors endorse other people’s blog posts? They do it by clicking on the image of the post they are interested in, commenting on that post and sharing the link on their own social media pages. Personally, I get my greatest amount of blog traffic from Pinterest so whenever someone pins an image from one of my posts, it is a real blessing.

Though a blog hop is a “party” of sorts, I prefer to think of it more like going to a fair. Each post is a “booth” where bloggers display their work. Some visitors will pass that booth by. Others will touch the stuff a little bit with a click or maybe a pin. Still others will stay for a while as a true admirer.  True admirers follow the blogger’s blog by subscribing to their email list or following them on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, or Instagram.

National Brands Can Find Great Blogs To Write For Them By Visiting Blog Hops

Brands have come to recognize that the relationship we have established with our readers is of value to them. A national brand can connect more closely with potential customers by hiring bloggers to write a story that ties in with their advertising campaigns. Marketers who work for those brand name companies would be wise to stop by blog hops from time to time looking for good outlets for their stories. Maybe they do!

Blog Hops are a great place to develop a readership that is meaningful. Meaningful? They are the readers who love what you love and will come back again. They are also the people those brands out there want to connect with. Blog Hops are a marketplace for your future so don’t sell them short. They are worth it.
What is a blog hop? #blogging #bloggingtips

Blog Hops are not just for bloggers. Think of them as indexes of online magazines. Isn’t that what a blog really is? An online magazine! People who just love crafts, recipes, kids activities, fashion, couponing, money saving tips, deals, giveaways, pets, back-to-school, home decor, gift ideas, parenting advice, ANY type of advice, health & fitness  …. well, the list goes on and on … can come to a blog hop and find TONS of creative ideas.

I had a marketing manager contact me one day about placing advertising on my blog. She asked me “Can you give me a list of other bloggers who write like Ducks ‘n a Row? I would like to get in touch with them.” That was a tall order. I know quite a few. So, I told her the best place for her to go fishing for excellent mommy blogs was blog parties! She did not know what they were. I gave her the “Reader’s Digest version” and sent her on her way. That was all she really needed to know.

Blog hops – link parties – are a gold mine for marketers looking for top-notch writers and photographers!

Going to a blog hop is kind of like going to a fair or reading the quick index of a popular magazine! #bloggingtips Share on X

3 ways that using blog hops will increase your blog traffic

How To Find Blog Hops

“So, where can I FIND blog hops?”  You can search Google or Twitter. To me, their search engines will be the fastest sources. If you use Twitter, just put these hashtags in the search window: #bloghop #linkup #linkparty or #blogparty. Any of those should find some. Also, I have put together a short list of parties  [below.] They are up to date and will give you at least one a day to get  you started.

How To Increase Your Blog Traffic 3 Ways With Blog Parties

Yes, there are at very least 3 ways you can use blog parties to build up the traffic to your blog. As the host of two major parties myself, and frequent attender of many other blog hops, I know this to be true.

tips, blogging tips, momblog, blog hop, link party

Blog parties are not just for newbies. All bloggers benefit from them. Some busy bloggers have dropped out from “partying” for lack of time but let me tell you that I have seen a recent upsurge of the most popular mom blogs who are now regularly attending my Wonderful Wednesday Blog Hop.

They may be stopping by themselves or, more likely, they are paying a virtual assistant to do it for them — but, think of it, the VALUE in attending blog hops is big enough for them to pay someone to do it.  Hmmm. Stop one moment and let that sink in. Blog parties should be part of your plan.

.

..

This blog contains Amazon affiliate links.

.

.

..

..

Now, here are 3 ways that participating in blog hops / link parties increase your traffic:

1. Sharing your posts is like placing a free advertisement on someone else’s blog. You are guaranteed numerous opportunities for the guests to click on your post at no charge at all. Some parties have multiple hosts, increasing the possibilities of views by that number of participating blogs. The two parties I host have 10 blogs each. Ten times the exposure!

2. Be an active visitor. Actively participating in the parties at VERY LEAST gets you seen by the hosts! “Actively” means that you do not just “post and run.” You interact with others. When you leave a comment on the blog party every week, thanking her for hosting, she gets to know you. I surely remember the ones who comment regularly on mine. Being specific in your comments could get a click from that host, as well. How about saying something like:  “Thanks so much for the great party. Today I shared my recipe for yummy mini pecan pie!”

.

..

Guess what I do as the host? I answer your comment and scan the entries to find “yummy mini pecan pie.” Often, I pin it. If it is a recipe, I yum it, too. If I have extra time, I may even leave a reciprocal comment on your blog post.

.

..

Hosting can be a lonely business. As party hosts, we appreciate YOU appreciating OUR hard work – it takes time to put these parties together every week – and many hosts will show you some extra TLC in return!

Not every party is the same but for Wonderful Wednesday Blog Hop the party features are often determined by what posts received the most clicks. In this case, the “tender loving care” click you just got from me gave you a better chance of leading the pack and gaining a feature. Yippee!

As a side note, actively participating by commenting on the blogs of other guests gains notice, as well. “What goes around comes around.” Tell them you just LOVED that cute craft and had to pin it 2 TIMES – or some other encouraging words. They are not obligated but it could get you some “thank you” pins or tweets on your own work as well.

3.Attending blog parties gives you LOTS of material to share. Social media thrives on people sharing each other’s work. Check out the most popular mom-blogger X pages. They retweet constantly. Often, they will post NEW tweets featuring other people’s work, as well.

.

..

You want X to blossom for you? Do not depend on auto shares from Facebook or Instagram to do it. It is OK to use that tool but when people see pages that are exclusively shares from other sources, and nothing else, that says that the blogger doesn’t visit her own Twitter page.

The same principal applies to all social media. Share and, even though that blogger may not reciprocate, you will get to be known as one whose pages are ALIVE with great things happening.

Pinterest is a huge traffic generator but does not work well if the only thing you share is your own work. Look through the blog hops you attend and pick out a few with fabulous images and titles. Visit them and pin them. They will be blessed and so will you. No harm in leaving a comment to let them know what you just did, either. Want MORE exposure at that very same time? Maximize your efforts by setting your pins to post to Twitter and/or Facebook, too!

Do you know that some people will get ♥heart-flutters♥ when they see that YOU, of all people, are now following them? I remember when a couple of super-bloggers started following me – I was soaring with excitement all day long. I couldn’t believe it. What a boost to my confidence!

Do you have any tips on how blog parties help boost traffic flow to your blog? Please share them with us!

This post is the first of a series.
Here is part 2:
