Welcome to our final party for the month of August! September is just one week away. In the meantime, how is it going? Is your family cramming all the “one more time” fun events in before summer is through? Yes, I know that it is not OFFICIALLY fall until the end of September but, let’s face it, after years of being tuned in to school schedules, most of us look at Labor Day as summer’s end.

How to Strip a Kitchen Table by A Ray of Sunlight.

This one needs a little explanation.

One of my little students in preschool was having accidents. She just didn’t know how to recognize it was time to ask to go potty. We scheduled multiple opportunities but that did not always work. Then her parents came up with this brilliant idea. They bought smaller water bottles and labeled them “1, 2, 3 and 4.” When the water was gone, she couldn’t have more to drink until the proper time.

Pacing her on a healthy drinking schedule, and gentle reminders from the teachers throughout the day, got her on track. No more accidents and she was one happy girl (We teachers were so happy, too!)

I was just looking around on Amazon to see if there were any quality smaller water bottles I could find and here it is! I am actually going to buy one for myself to take my soy milk for a mid-day pick-me-up when I am teaching school. The smaller size of this one is 12oz. I already have two of the larger ones for water, one is for the car for when I am out and about.

July is coming to a close but there is still time for one more party for my round is complete. This is Sinea from Ducks ‘n a Row and I have been hosting Happiness is Homemade throughout the month. When you were a child did you equate the arrival of summer with the 4th of July??? You did? Me, too! The fireworks and picnics and trips to the beach and parades were something we little kids looked forward to. Summertime had begun!

You will see the marks of summer and sunshine in many of our guests’ posts this week and for some weeks to come. Personally, I love everything about this time of year. That’s why I picked a hot air balloon for this week’s party image. All part of the beauty of our celebrations. How To Make an Old Wooden Deck Look Brand New

Getting my deck refinished was a big summer surprise. That old deck now looks brand new! Every year I had hoped to be able to afford to do it, but we were never able to. Spring came again and, still, It looked like it would go untouched for another year. Then, it happened!

My brother and his wife had been having their house painted and, totally a surprise to me, they sent the painters to my house to power-wash and stain my deck, too. Talk about home improvements! What an absolute blessing!!!

As you can see in the before and after picture above, the raw deck was very dirty. It was 7 years old and had never been power-washed or treated. It needed help.

We selected a medium gray stain for the main deck and white for the railings. The black rods on the sides look so nice with the white and gray combination. We added new solar lights on the posts, too. They sparkle in the night. They looks like stars – very pretty!

How Make An Old Deck Look Brand New

The process was very simple:

1.Blow the debris off the deck using a leaf blower. [Leaves and seeds from the trees had collected on it.]

2.Power-wash the deck thoroughly and allow it to dry for a day or two.

3.Stain it using rollers and paint brushes. The stain almost looks like paint but it is not. It is formulated for decks.

4.Let it dry between coats.

5.Place the solar deck lights on each of the posts — you are done!
